how do I add a custom div before S4-workspace in SharePoint 2010?

I need to add a custom div after top header(site action bar) and befor s4-workspace.

What I have tried:

I have added a div just before s4-workspace div in v4-master. the problem is that, when i load the page, its visible only for a second and is gone after that and is visible again only for a sec after reloading the page.

Let me know why you want to add custom div before s4-workspace div since s4-workspace is a root tag and the scroll bar will be enabled for s4-workspace tag.
