SharePoint 2013 App Domain Creation

Hi,

I have created new App Domain and Wildcard alias. To verify the new domain name, I have pinged the appdomain name with a randon word. That is , if my app domain name is appDomain.com , I have pinged abc.appDomain.com.
The ping command failed and I don't know the reason. I have even added the app domain name to the host file. But still it failed. Kindly assist with your inputs.

What does your DNS setup look like? Unless you have a wildcard A record set up, clients will not be able to resolve random sub-domains.
