How to find SQL Server is Running or not in Application

Dear Friends,

Once SQL Server was down. My applications where not running.
It was reported by one of the client. Then we have sorted by communicating to DBA Team.

Is there any option find SQL Server is running or not using in an application or web-page.

Solution 1

I think the easiest way is simply to try to connect to the SQL server. If the connection is successful you know that the whole stack is working and if not you get an error message which leads you forward.
