I'd like to insert an image (PNG format) that has transparency. However in CR the transparent portions show up as white and cover over whatever color is behind the image.

I hunted about for setting on the image format but cant find one. Does anyone have an idea I might try?

Have a look at this: How to Add a Transparent Image to a Crystal Report[^]

It looks like transparency is not supported for PNG.

Ole object isn't the only option, why not use WMF?

is depend on the database you are using, if you are using access database then you have to create a column with data type 'OLE Object' and convert the picture to byte then save it

Did you notice the comment in the end "Note that all of these methods above do not work when you're using dynamic images, via the Graphic Location feature in Crystal Reports, unless you convert your current image types to EMF as an example"
