VB6 was and is a joke. It's been out of date for nearly a decade, why would you be using it ? The way to get VB6 to do anything was always to buy COM components written in C++ to do the real work. As VB6 is long obsolete, I suspect that your sources for such things are likely to be harder to find than when VB6 was a living language. You could also look into the ways that J# adds zip functionality to .NET and you may well find articles that provide a J# COM component that you could use.
