Take a look at this article[^] here on CodeProject.
Or simply use Application.EnableVisualStyles method.

Heath's article is a nice example but your suggestion to use Application.EnableVisualStyles only works in .NET 1.1 in case you have 1.0 users out there - just an FYI.

I know that and guess Anonymous would have found out too by reading the docs.
Anyway, THX for the addition and shame on me for not mentioning it in the first place

First off, i'm writing a launcher program. It's going to have a context menu with all the apps that the user added (and their respective icons).
Considering that someone might put in 40 apps, that might take a while to cache EVERY icon EVERY time the program starts.
My solution was to add all the icons to an Arraylist and SERIALIZE the arraylist into a .dat file (just plaintext).
Problem: The icon that i add to the arraylist is 256/true-color with alpha transparency. The icon that comes out when i deserialize it is invariably 16 colors with no transparency/regular transparency.
i did some tests, this has nothing to do with the limitations of the icon class. (i displayed the before/after icon for myself). Also, i tested and it has nothing to do with how i'm storing the ArrayList of icons in a .dat file.
does anyone know what is going on or another way i could cache the icons without putting them into separate files? <

How do I simply get a shape (say a triangle, or circle ) to move at at some visible rate across a windows form?
As an alternative: How would I get a character to move across a Console Window.
Would like to write a simple game, I sure would appreciate some help - thanks
C# only......

why? anyways there are two ways to do the circle, at least that i can think of, first you probably know gdi+ i recommend learning it, create it using that but i dont know how efficient it would be and add a timer so that every tick would change the location, another way is to create a picturebox and add a picture of a circle to it then change its location every second or so...
for the console its a little simpler (i understood the circle moving across the screen so) just add a space every second or ms or whatever you want to do..;P

Tom,
Thanks for your advice. Went to the website and it makes about as much sense to me as a book written in Cyrillic about 5th Century gypsy dogs- but thanks again....

I recomand you to put on the window a drawing zone (say a panelBox), and get it's Graphics object (control.CreateGraphics() ). now use this Graphics object to do your drawind.
A basic animation algorithm is described by the following steps :
1. draw your image
2. pause a little the screen
3. clear the screen and jump to step 1
Of course this algorithm is a rudimentary one, now all drawing is made using double buffer (do drawing into memory and then put on the screen)
I hope you understand...

I've installed a global exception handler and it uses the Exception Management Block. I get lovely stack traces, and I've written a custom publisher that takes a full MiniDump to analyze with sos.dll, but my code is called after the stack is unwound, so I can't get the values of any parameters for unwound methods.
Is there a way to register a "custom stack unwinder" to see what data on the stack *was* before the exception is caught? It would aid in debugging.
All I can think of now is manually including a try...finally, set a flag to true in the last statement of the try block, and in the finally block if that flag is not set then collect the locals and stack variables.

I need a little help. I am doing an LDAP query in C# using directory services and returning the attribute names and values for a user. For some of the attributes, accountexpires for example, the string representation of the value is System.__ComObject. How do I get the actual date?

Hi every 1,
i want to make a simple network project that send data and video to a client and i need help coz i never create a network project before and i don't know how to use the socket's.
Any 1 can help me ????? "a code may help me 2 understand"
|
|
|
|
|
that's a big job especially for someone who never used sockets, anyways do you want to do the video in realtime? consider just sending the client program a copy of the video and then play it. there are tons of articles on sockets on this site.. also try msdn.microsoft.com[^]

hello,
I have a FileStream object in an OnChange event. Everytime OnChange is called, the code goes like this :
private void OnChanged(object source, FileSystemEventArgs e)
{
byte [] data = new byte[100];
try
{
fs.Read(data,offSet,fs.Length-offSet);
offSet = fs.Length;
changedText = trim(Encoding.ASCII.GetString(data));
doOperations(changedText);
}
catch(Exception ee)
{}
}
Now suppose on first OnChange call, 50 bytes were read, filling up the byte array (data) from index 0 to 49. The Problem starts on the next OnChange call. It continues to fill my byte array from 50 onwards, which finally results in the System.ArgumentException, when it reaches the array length 100. I need my byte array to be filled from 0 everytime OnChange is called. How can I do it?
regards
Zishan

lose the offset thing
look at msdn FileStream Read method :
[C#]
public override int Read(
[In,Out] byte[] array,
int offset,
int count
);
Parameters
*array
When this method returns, contains the specified byte array with the values between offset and (offset + count - 1) replaced by the bytes read from the current source.
*offset
The byte offset in array at which to begin reading.
*count
The maximum number of bytes to read.
Return Value
The total number of bytes read into the buffer. This might be less than the number of bytes requested if that number of bytes are not currently available, or zero if the end of the stream is reached.
I hope you understand...

becoz by that i can rotate and translate my image and put it on my place(that is 0,0).
i got rotation angle perfactly ok.No problem but can some body tell me about how to find out translation matrix?
i am tring with translatetransform in matrix but i am slighly confused with matrix so can any body help me out in finding translation matrix.

I believe he is talking about System.Graphics not dx. Please answer the question since I don't have much time.
