It was already tried - they were called CP2, CodeProject Code Projects - but the CP forum software wasn't up to the task of being a project management tool. As the earlier post said, a few survived and were moved to existing OSS sites or to their own site. I don't know the names off the top of my head, but the CP2 articles might still be around.

Interesting, thanks. That seems like a terrible shame because a lot of people here have excellent ideas that could be put to great use. Most CPians have full time jobs and can only do so much on their own, which is why I thought it best to divide and conquer. Oh well.

It looks to me, on the client end, like a project management and presentation section could be programmed almost independent of the rest of codeproject. Just an interface to the users’ database and some well placed links should do it. There would need to be some new tables set up in a database for groups, resources, permissions, and so on. It would need to be setup such that a resource (like: the Project Description) can only be edited by users in a specific group. For anyone who has used anything Directory Services, this structure should sound familiar; it’s just in a much lighter implementation.
So, if I am correct in my initial assumptions, why not get together a group, and make the first project writing a good (stress on good) project management and presentation suit for this site. I for one would love to see this if it is possible.

how about an "article of the year" - selected from the price winners (or maybe a wider range) of the year?
Instead of fancy prices, you could throw in some code project rarities (like the reset button of web server 4).

Yeah, that would be a nice button to have.

Maybe it's just me, with my slow dial-up connection and all, but I do feel that the C# page could be made a little smaller, and thus faster to access. Maybe you could place each sub-section on its own page, rather than the whole bunch on one page
I as a user would not have to click any more than I do now, but the amount I have to download from the server on each access would be smaller.

Yep - the C# section will definitely get reorganised.

Is Code Project's ToDo list available for viewing and rating?

No, because a) we often need to change priorities so any list we release will probably not be truly representative of what is coming up, and b) it would spoil the surprise

But that's where the fun begins. a) Instead of you guys changing the priorities on the list, we do it for you. b) Then you guys also get surprized.

Hi,
Many great articles on the site, but I'd really love to be able to read them on the road with my PDA (PPC 2002). Any thought been given to supporting AvantGo, etc.?
Cheers,
Paul

I've got an iPaq 4150 which is begging to be used, so it's definitely up on the feature list. It will be done.

I always thought it was ridiculous when it was first introduced, but now after watching it's effects for some years I can see it's also divisive and pointless.

Of course the voting useless for most forums, but many users love it.
In the programming forums it is not used very often, it does not matter if it stays or not.
In soapbox and lounge, votes of 5 or 1 are used as an abbreviation of "i agree, no further comment" or "i disagree and don't want to show my name because I don't have good arguments".
And here in the suggestions forum, you can see from a message's score, that the majority of readers find a suggestion a good/bad idea.
You're right, the voting system is pointless... but why not let the people vote, if they feel it's funny?
I'd rather get rid of the voting system for articles. It causes "ranking wars", and I think many good articles get voted down because somebody hates the author.

Actually, I'd like people fiving a reply that was helpful. Makes it easier to spot the "actual solution".

True, but also sometimes I've noticed people fiving a question. I don't know why, maybe they have the same problem. Maybe the author sets up a second account and uses it to highlight the questions I don't know - but without further comments I can't tell (just to state the blindingly obvious)
Do you want to know more?
