Hi,
I have a web server which I am running IIS from. To access external sites outside our work LAN, requests must go through an authenticated proxy server.
My problem is that in an ASP script on my web server, the MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP must POST data to an external https site. At the moment I presume it does not work because of the authenticated proxy it theoretically must go through first.
I have tested my script on another web server (one with direct access to external sites) and it works fine.
I have configured proxycfg.exe to use the proxy server, but I am not sure where to provide the credentials...on the web server somewhere, or part of the ASP script.
Any help would be appreciated.

You know that little click sound that IE makes when you click on a link? Well my computer makes that sound every once in a while for no apparent reason. Does anyone have any idea why?
I've done numerous spyware and virus scans, and no background applications are showing up in the task manager. So what could it be?

Try to check your keyboard to make sure that no key is dock while you press it. If it is not the keyboard then go to control panel, double click on Sound and Audio device icon. Check on the Sound tab and look for list of Program Event. You will see a list of sound that correspondence to an event that it will respond for your application. Try to check one by one for the sound that it has the same as one you hear and try to change it one by one to another sound and wait... If you meet the sound that you change then you will know why your computer play the sound and fix the problem.

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right forum for this question but I didn't see a networking stuff forum...
Is there an api/method for getting the signal strength of a wireless connection (802.11b/g) programatically. Windows XP is able to display the wireless signal strength when you bring up the status dialog of a wireless network connection, I would like to do something similar in my app.
This will probably be impossible in Win2k and below since third party applications managed the wireless connections, but in windows XP it should be possible.
Does anyone have any ideas?

It's probably the right forum, and the C++ forum wouldn't be wrong, either. But, though I was sure I could find the information you need in the SDK, it's missing. After 40 minutes of drilling down through the endless maze of contents and futile searches I finally found the section you need. Guess what I found?
"This section covers extensions to Windows Sockets 2 that are specific to the use of wireless networks. It also describes aspects of base Windows Sockets 2 functions that require special consideration or that may exhibit unique behavior when using such networks."
That's all there is; no links to anywhere (except a site to buy a copy of the SDK, which I already have, and feedback link, which I used rather bluntly), no additional pages, no API, no tips, no samples, no information. Period. Thanks a bunch, Microsoft...
This nonsense makes as much sense as the USAF paying a well known contractor $5000 a page for tech documents containing pages with exactly one sentence, to wit - "This Page Left Intentionally Blank." Oddly enough, that contractor is right down the road from Redmond. Coincidence?
I hope someone can provide you with some useful information; I'd be interested, too.

Here is what I have discovered up until now... (after scavanging many newsgroups)
This provides a way to access the information by hooking into the driver, I believe.. I haven't looked at it too carefully, but a number of sources point to this direction...

The other method is to use WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) to get the information about the adapter. I have no experience with WMI, but I believe this is the perferred way, especially since the first method maybe soon deprecated by microsoft because of potential security concerns...
Either way it doesn't look like it will be easy.

Hi, I have a problem with the computer at my work. I run windows update and update some component, at the same time an error message appear and ask for debug in visual studio .net 2003. But I ignore it and it require to restart. At the same time i just inform from Administration that there is a virus attack today. After I restart my computer when the I log on to windows its display an error message told me that "The procedure entry point AssocGetPercieveType could not be locate in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll". Then nothing appear on the screen except the picture of windows background (no taskbar, no any icon...). When I leave the computer for a while there is a shutdown dialog box appear and told me that the Remote Procedure Call need to shutdown... I suspect that it was a virus attack with my computer.
Now I could not di anything with my computer. The only solution that I have is create an emergency disk of anti-virus and scan it from the start up. All my importance file are in the computer and could not copy out to the other device. Does anybody have any idea to solve this problem??? Please help!!!  confused:     
Note: my computer is running windows xp pro. service pack 2. If any one know a virus name that cause this problem then let me know because some solution with the virus could be solve if I know the virus name.

I really wonder why I just last for restart only 5 minutes it made my windows operating system become corrupts its file??? I think it might be something wrong with my computer. I have configure a windows 2003 domain, now i want to give my domain user permission to login in my domain 1 hour per day, after using 1 houre the user will be log out and cant login that day again. So the user will permit to log in 1 hour pre day. How can i do that

You can configure in the property of each user to log on the specific period that you want them to access to the server. After that you need to configure your Domain Controller Security Policies to force the user to log off after the logon hour is expire. Try to enable the policies: "Network security: Force log off when logon hour expire". But this method is fix for the time that user logon.
But if you want to dynamic that user could logon any time but limit to one hour, should assign the logon script to start count down the time and log off the user when the time reach its limit. Try see the shutdown command line tool reference.[^]

Dear Friends,
I've installed Windows 2000 on my machine. It is installed on C:\ drive; the path to "program files" directory given by the system is c:\Program Files. I want to change this path to D:\Program Files.
How can i do so ? Are there any registry settings ??

In my opinion, it is very difficult to change the directory because it might be relate the system registry. Its relate to the directory itself (windows system folder) and the program that you have installed such as office, visual studio... which has its own registry too. I think the best choice if you want to change the directory is the time that you install windows then you have to choose the drive that you want to place your PROGRAM FILE and WINDOWS or WINNT folder.
Note: The above comment base on my expeirnce only, if you found any document that could change the the PROGRAM FILE folder then go ahead with it.

Hi All,
I have a Visual Foxpro 6.0 application installed on Windows 2000 server and am trying to run it through Terminal Services Client. It runs ok if I log on to the Terminal Services Server as admin and run the application. The problem comes when I tried to log on as a normal user and run the application. An error message came up as below:
OLE error code 0x80040154: Class not registerd.
I am pretty sure it has something to do with security on the server.
Could somebody please help me to overcome this problem.

Hi, I use ADSL broad band to share an internet in my house. My internet will cost me when I start browse the page it will cound the space that I use the internet (mean the signal transfer through router to the internet). My question is: if I transfer a file (example: 20MB) to another computer in the network via map drive, is it count to the internet space usage or not? The file is transfer from one computer to another computer (in my opinion i think NO). Does anybody have any comment about that?

Generally, file transfers count as bandwidth usage on systems that monitor such things. Fortunately, my ISP doesn't monitor such trivia so I've never had to be concerned about it. For DSL I believe that the going rate is about $60 per month, and there are no bandwidth limitations or byte transfer caps that I know of.

Hello, I have a problem with mandrake booting. I lost lilo when I reinstalled windows. I have tried to rescue lilo from mandrake's boot cd, but it give's me some errors, so I acces to console, but I haven't got the lilo command.
Does anybody know how to rescue lilo or simply execute mandrake?

Does anyone know how to develop a windows virtual printer such as "print to PDF" or MS-Office's "Image Writer" ???
I was currently asked to develop a similar kind of virtual printer device. Unfortunately I did never do anything like that and I don't know exactly which steps are involved.
Is it some kind of device driver that needs DDK, or is it just a piece of "normal" software that just needs to get properly registered into the registry?
I tried to look at windows' registry in order to get some hint and I actually found some voices that could be involved, so I think that maybe the second choice is a bit more probable. Also because I don't have any hardware to connect to...
If anyone knows where to get some more informations or maybe some example codes, please let me know !!!!

Yes, it seems that these products are what I need in order to develop my specific application.
But, as a student, I would like to understand how these pieces of software are able to create a sort of "virtual printer port".
In effect, I would like to have a peep on the source code (or maybe just a hint...) in order to be able to do something like that.
