I have a similar problem with the applications that I need to write, and as I think someone previously has said Windows is not real time and you cannot perform tasks at precise times.
However if like me you are stuck with Windows the following might be of interest. I have found that I can get a close approximation by putting the time critical event in a seperate thread, keep it as small and as fast as possible and give it a high priority. My code takes samples from the RS232 port at 100ms intervals and is reasonably accurate.
I have added a check to ensure that if there is a large error in the timing the user is told and they can shut down some apps or get a faster machine!

Also, I have read in Game Development books to use QueryPerformanceCounter() and GetTickCount() because they're more accurate.

I developed a small project in vc++. What happens it runs perfectly in vc++ 6.0 environment,but didn't run properly outside it as i link it to the start menu.

could you in brief detail the folder where you exe is located, and the files it needs (their location too). Explain also what you exactly do into the start menu...

ya hi toxcct.The exe is in the debug folder.when i put the .exe & .dat files in the windows start menu(Windows/startmenu/addressbook.exe).The program's exe not stores data properly as i wrote some times junk,sometimes overwrite the prev. data.It not stores the data perfectly as it stores under vc++ environment.help me.
My application is a simple address book app.. where records stores in the .dat file.

don't put your binary direclty into the start menu. let it in a folder (in program files for example), and just add in the start menu a shortcut (.lnk) to your .exe.

What is the best way to arrange a ListCtrl to be re-drawn when the Window has been Minimised.
At present the CListCtrl is not on the dialog following a restore from a Minimised.

The document from DirectShow says that Strmiids.lib are used to exports class identifiers (CLSIDs) and interface identifiers (IIDs). All DirectShow applications require this library. So i am wondering whether did i link this lib to my project. Is including <dshow.h> just enough? But y am i still having the same errors???

i have my application derived from CScrollview class. now i want to use Windows common font dialog box so that i can change the font and color for wjatever i write in my view.
I am able to write using the windows default font. i have made an object using class CFontDialog. got the face name of the selected font in logfont variable, but how can i use the selected font to the view.
Please help me!!

Hello to everybody,
I tried to use the implementation of George Anescu[^] for encoding some text but I'm not sure I encrpyt correctly the data..... datas are taken from a buffer and are in plaintext, I allocate a buffer using

and the encrpyt it using

oRijndael.Encrypt(buffer_in, *buffer_out, lenght,2);
where lenght is strlen(mainbuffer)+1;
when I've executed oRijndael.Encrypt(....) I've got into buffer_out the data encrypted, but using strlen I get a lenght < of buffer_in, should I use _msize? the problem is that using oRijndael.Decrypt I've a lenght that's not the one of buffer_in,so Decrypt fails...
Hope someone has used this implementation of AES and can help me, thanks

I have a video processing application that takes input for a web camera, do something on each frame, and immediately display the result. The application runs quite well in the beginning, with frame rate reaching up to 20fps. The problem is, it seems that the application slows down after it has run for a long time (something in the range of 15 hours or so). At this time, the frame rate is only 4 fps or so. I know it is impossible for someone to pinpoint what the problem exactly is, what I want to know is what are the possible causes for this. I have been scratching my head for the past few hours and the solution still eludes me.
Some information about my application that may be useful:
1. My app is a directshow filter
2. There is no harddisk access involved, as my app only process input frames (obtained from a webcam) and immediately display them on screen
3. I didn't detect any memory leaks, when my app's performance dropped to 4fps, it is only consuming around 10% of the available memory
4. After the performance dropped to 4fps, sometimes the fps count can increase again up to ~8fps, but it never reaches the original fps count (20 fps)
5. I have tested the app on several PCs with different configurations, and all of them exhibit the same behaviour
