Is it possible to create a window that will stay on top of everything? I have a project that needs a translucent window covering an area of the screen. I've created that window, and made it so that all mouse and keyboard commands go to the correct locations, but if the user causes a menu to drop down, it appears above mine, ruining the effect.

I'm afraid that this does not work. While the PasswordSpy program stays on top of the other programs, the menus of the other apps drop down in front of it. This is what I'm trying to avoid.

I am new to GDI+. I have been working for last two years on traditional GDI.
Well I am having a project in which i will require to perform following tasks and for the purpose of the same i want to use GDI+
1.0 Saving View content to the Image files, say JPG, BMP,etc
2.0 Antialiasing line and circle drawing to get smooth plot.
I am knowing that i have to redistribute teh gdiplus.dll in my application folder and set /BASE while building
I just want to know that:
1.0 What are other dependebncy for GDI porting?
2.0 Can we use GDI and GDI+ in one code?
3.0 How to save the content of view to Image file?
4.0 How to draw antialiased lines, etc?

Hi all,
I am getting an assertion failure error while executing my program. In my program I am declaring multiple instances of a class dynamically like...
Cube *C = new Cube[n];
Sphere *S = new Sphere[n1];
and till these statements the execytion is fine but after these I am callling a method of those instances individually in a loop...
if (n>=1)
for (i=1;i<=n;i++)
C[i].set_values(dis,dim,res1);
if (n1>=1)
for (i=1;i<=n1;i++)
S[i].set_values(dis,dim,res1);
when returning from this method it is giving me above error.
but if i used only one instance like
Cube C = new Cube();
C.set_values(dis,dim,res1);
then it is working fine....
I am not getting where I am goin wrong and here is the error.

Your program ran out of boundary! Remember this well:
An array starts from index 0. Thus you shall write this way:
if(n1 >= 1)
for(i = 0; i < n1; i++)
S[i].set_values(dis, dim, res1);

thanks.... damn it was shame on me, i was mistaken at such a low level funda principle... anyway i am just thinking of the instance numbers rather than the actual array implementation at the time of codin....

'MeasureItem' and 'DrawItem' can do so. But is there a way changing item height via custom draw, or WM_NOTIFY messages?

No. You can only do this with Owner Draw list controls (MeasureItem())

I have a C dll that I didn't write so I don't know what's really going on in it. It compiles fine. If I turn on the /clr switch though, I get about 20 errors out of it like
c:\Parser\link42\src\pp_lexer.c(680): error C2197: 'pp_lexer__create_buffer' : too many arguments for call through pointer-to-function
I also get an error that points to stdlib.h which I don't understand either.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Vc7\include\stdlib.h(368): error C2192: parameter '1' declaration different
pointing to
_CRTIMP void __cdecl perror(const char *);
Is this because of my trying to compile in as C code and clr trying to reference a new copy of stdlib.h or something?
My c++ is very rusty. Can anyone tell me what is wrong or what I can do to fix it? I was under the impression that /clr really didn't do that much.

Is there a way to know when my internet connection (dialup or broadband) is disconnecting or connecting? I want to be notified when there are some actions occuring to my Internet connection.

I am building an internet application, but in the testing phase the clients were unable to connect to the server... I tried to use "ping" or "tracert" from the DOS prompt but the IP was unreachable..
note that I was running the server application in a computer that is connected to the internet via a dial up connection...
I used the notification icon of the dial up connection to get the IP address from my PC (which I am using as a host for the server) but this IP was unreachable by other computers that runs the clients..
please tell me why this IP was unreachable and how can I get my actual address...

The reason behind this that ip that provided by Your ISP is temprary and local for your isp domain.
Hian ISP spend more than lakhs per Year for getting live IP's,and you are thinking getting it free.
for checking your IPaddress, open site http://www.whatismyip.com this will tell your IP address.
i think your networking sjkillz need some brush up.

I have read this article[^]and would like to use it in my application. My app is a dialog one and if I call a modal dialog from main dialog I can make main dialog fade. If I call an external program or a COM DLL which displays a message I get an error. My external program or COM DLL message does not have focus set on it and I cannot click it. I must close it from the taskbar.
Must I have CWndFade in its own thread to work as I wish?

You should ask in the forum for the article, then the author will get an email and probably help you.
Of course, assuming you're fading windows in the W2000+ way, you shouldn't need anything external to your class to do it.

Hey all...
I am trying to write out a Japanese text string in a data file which was originally specified for ANSI text and used across several applications. Basically what was suggested was that I use UTF-8 to write out the text strings and read them back in. One of the constraints is that the current applications that read English only should still be able to read English data if this application writes it. However the old applications can punt on the Japanese until they are also updated.
I can figure out how to write from MBCS to UTF-8:

However we normally build in UNICODE using TCHAR, and it is normally UTF-16. However I just want to convert this one string from UTF-16 to UTF-8. Anyone ever done this?
You can also just call me insane and stupid as long as you can suggest a better approach. I don't mind being insulted if I can learn something.

Hi All,
I was looking to update from VS6 to VS2003 but I was told at one point that my code would then require XP ( latest MFC , etc ) to run. Is it possible to use VS 2003 but still compile a project so that it still runs on windows 95/2k, etc? without having to package a pile of new libs with it.
Is it just a matter of linking in the project settings?
Could anyone point me in the right direction as to how to set this up. Thanks for the help.

That is wrong, you can target any OS with VC 7 just like with VC 6. However, if your VC 6 code uses the DLL version of MFC, be aware that the MFC 7 DLLs aren't as commonplace yet like mfc42.dll is, so more people will have to get those DLLs, either from your installer or MS.

Hello,
I'm using some of the stl template classes and std::string. When I compile, I get all sort of warnings from the stl libray.
Does aybody know a nice way to get rid of all these warnings instead of #pragma them all away?

Multiply it by infinity and take it beyond eternity and you'll still have no idea about what I'm talking about.

If you refer to warnings 4503 and 4786, these are completely harmless and #pragmaing them away is just fine. I don't think there's another way to get rid of them.
