Hi, I use windows 2000 and windows xp in my workgroup. When I want to remote access from windows 2000 to windows xp, I have to use Remote Desktop connection to windows xp then I can log on windows xp via remote access. But I want to know how to access windows 2000 from windows xp. I want to see the screen of windows 2000 display on windows xp as i use windows 2000 to view windows xp via remote desktop connection.

Windows 2000 does not support this feature without Windows Terminal Services (separate purchased product) or similar.

For free, you could try WinVNC. Note that it does not work exactly the same as remote desktop.

OK, I can't work this out.

What we'd like to do is to set the password policy for the domain user accounts only, not affecting any local accounts created on the workstations which are members of the domain. Ideally, we'd like to set different policies for different subsets of users, but I don't think that's possible. We often have to test hand-held systems connecting through RAS to an FTP server, for example, and don't want to have to fit the password scheme for these systems (where it's often pretty hard to type extended characters, for example!) into the domain password policy.

Anyone know if what I'm after is possible, and if so, how do I get it to work? I already know that I can edit the Default Domain Policy to apply password policy.

So far I've tried adding a new GPO ('Password Restrictions') to the Domain Controllers OU. Resultant Set Of Policy (Planning) on the domain controller shows the correct settings, but Resultant Set of Policy (Logging) does not. Running gpupdate has no effect, even with the /force switch.

The domain controller runs Windows Server 2003 and the domain is at Windows 2000 Native functional level.

Anywho quick question, if one was to set up a linux sever for say more relaible storage of important things and sharing a printer on a network w/ two windows clients connected through a switch what would be the best distro to go with to ensure compatiblity with the cleints and the server.

You can not change the color for INPUTBOX in VBScript but you can use Kixforms.dll to do it. http://www.kixforms.org

Copy Files (RS-232)

I need to copy files/directories from my old Windows 95 PC which does NOT have a USB port; only RS-232 ports; to my new PC.

I have a RS-232 cable and which could connect the two PCs but what do I need to do to copy the data across;

i.e. Windows 95 -> Windows XP

Any suggestions or instructions please. Confused | :confused:

Does your computer have an infrared or LPT1 port? If it has, use the other computer that have infrared to transfer the document or use LPT1 via lamplink connection.

From what I can gather I can use the RS232 port, but need a 'Null Modem' cable. As the old computer running Windos 95 has no infra red or USB options.

I have downloaded FasyLynx 3.3 to do the transfer.

I know I'm late to the party here, but Win95 supported direct connection to other computers via serial ports - I'm not sure whether WinXP does. If so, connect them using a null modem cable, put them in the same Workgroup and set up TCP/IP or NetBEUI, then drag and drop files from one to the other at your leisure. There was a wizard in Win95 to set this up; hopefully WinXP still has it included.

Thanks for the post. I have ordered a null modem cable (awaiting for it), also I have downloaded FastLynx (Demo version) so when the cable arraives I will try and transfer the files across.

i want to start a program on logon, that should not be terminated by the user.
i cannot use a service - so i have to start the program e.g. as administrator
or as system. then, the user should not be able to stop the program.

any idea how i can implement this?

Build your own application. When the user close your application it will check to validate the level of the right of your user. If it is a litmit user account than block them from closing your application.

I have the following line in a vbs script. I want to capture whatever would be output on the dos command line into a variable that I can print can print from the vbs file onto the command line, using the wscript.echo command. (I hope this makes sense.)

Here is the line of code:
