When you form a union you have declared a variable; i.e.

But how do you use the variable test_26_tt1 in another unit.
With a float you can use:
extern float flt;
But how do you do the same with test_26_tt1.

I had to look up union again...
I think
extern union
{
TEST_26_TT1 message_data;
unsigned short buffer[32];
} test_26_tt1;
will work. Or make your union a full type like this:
union test_26_union
{
TEST_26_TT1 message_data;
unsigned short buffer[32];
}
extern test_26_union test_26_tt1;
Depending on if you want to use this union elsewhere.
Let me know what works, I've never used unions in C++, but I can think of a few times where it might be useful.

Its Monday morning here in the UK, just tried out your suggestion:-

It worked OK.
I did try the other method you suggested:-
union test_26_union <br />

TEST_26_TT1 message_data;<br />

But I kept getting the following error:-
My_Example error LNK2005: "union test_26_union test_26_tt1" (?test_26_tt1@@test_26_union@@A) already defined in Database2.obj

The following error appeared when I was adding a new function to one of my dialogs.
c:\SSIC_Example\GenericGuiDlg.h(18): error C2065: 'IDD_GENERIC_GUI' : undeclared identifier
I have checked and the 'IDD_GENERIC_GUI' is present in the reource.h file and used correctly in the .rc file.
I have seen this before and usually abandoned the project.
But this project is too big for that.
Any suggestions

Make sure you include resource.h in GenericGuiDlg.h.
|

Do you have IntelliSense? Does it recognize the identifier? (if the IntelliSense works, 'cause that's not always the case)
if it doesn't, try rebuilding the complete solution...?
Did you add the resource manually? (in that case did you set up the counter by 1 and did you give a unique id?)
If all else fails maybe you can create your resource dynamically in code?

Right above this line should be the .cpp file that the compiler was operating on. I'll assume it was GenericGuiDlg.cpp. At the top of that .cpp file, right below the #include <stdafx.h> statement, should be the inclusion of the app's .h file. Inside of that file is where resource.h file gets included.

Hi Folks,
I am trying to use a Java webservice from Visual C++ 7.1 (VS.NET 2003). This webservice exposes one function that returns an OBJECT (java.lang.Object). When I try to add web reference to this webservice in VC++7.1, it generates following error while creating webservice proxy.

Hi,
I have a dialog based app, want to disable and gray a sub menu item and I cannot gray it. I tried to find a solution to this problem but could not. Neither of the following work.  What happens is I see Item 3 in black, press it, and nothing happens. I could have done it by modifying the code that is called when Item 3 is pressed. Why would I bother with OnUpdate? What's the use of it? I got no idea! 
I will be very happy if someone can help me.

Yes, I set the bool variable Item3Enable to true somewhere else when I want to have ID_SETTINGS_ITEM3 enabled, and to false when I want to have ID_SETTINGS_ITEM3 disabled.

Just do:

when pCmdUI->m_nID is ID_SETTINGS_ITEM3
that is, simply you can do:
pCmdUI->Enable(pCmdUI->m_nID != ID_SETTINGS_ITEM3);

I have already set it to false, item 3 becomes disabled, but not gray!! besides I do not want to have it always disabled, therefore I have put the variable Item3Enable, which I set to true or false in another function outside.
I must be able to point to item 3 somehow and disable it but pCmdUI->m_pMenu is always NULL. I cannot manage to disable item 3 with GetMenu() and GetSubMenu() either, although I know it is possible to check and uncheck a menu item on a COMMAND message mapped to it using GetMenu() and GetsubMenu().
Does not anyone know why this doesn't work?

Have you tried to put pCmdUI->Enable(FALSE) as the only instruction in the update handler? If that way the menu option is grayed, the problem is the condition you have.
By the way, if that update handler is called only for item 3, you don't need that verification.
Finally, I tell you that I use my own application to place pCmdUI->Enable(FALSE) for a specific menu item and it worked (disabled and grayed) so the problem may be in your condition.

Yes, it was only one line pCmdUI->Enable(true/false) before I encluntered the problem of non-grayed disabling. I put the other code to be able to gray it. actually I found it in some documents on internet, but none of the examples I saw directly match the situation I have.
You're right about the verification being unncessary, i did that to be sure.

I can guess that you have in other part of your program a code to "ungray" the item. Check that.
Other fact to check. Are other menu items grayed that you see grayed? maybe is only a display problem.

ok.. forget the function mapped to UPDATE_COMMAND_UI - delete it! Somewhere outside do this to switch between enabled and disabled menu items - nothing else

Actually this is not working in my program.
I would like to explain my question.
I insert three dialog box(d1,d2 and d3) and also make their
classes for each dialog box(CD1,CD2 and CD3), derived from CDialog.
d1 contains two botton "Back and Next".On Clicking on the "Next" button, it calls d2(second dialog box).d2 also contains two button "Continue and Cancel".Again I press the "Continue" button, it calls d3(third dialog box).
Now I want to do that when I click on "Continue" button,it calls d3 and dismiss(hide) the both dialog box(d1 and d2)simultaneously.
I wrote code something like that:
