1. In a HTML Page, accessed from Database (mysql) and displayed in the browser
2. I need to have a button to hightlight selected portions (using mouse selection) of the HTML text. Same button should be able to dehighlight the selected text.
3. I need to show all the Highlighted texts in a separate window.
4. If required, I need to save the HTML Page accessed from the Database to be saved again with the Highlighted text.
Someone please Help... URGENT....

1. Having the word URGENT on the title of your post is not polite.
2. What is your question? This is not a question, its a poor spec list.
3. Do you expect someone to do it for you? If yes, look elsewhere.

Over the past few months, I've been seeing more full featured tools for working in Dot Net, and they're open source. Everything from the DotNetNuke portal (Which I'm currently playing with to see what it can do) to a full IDE! This is above and beyond all of the bits of code, "modules", and sample pages illustrating how to do things. What I have noticed is that you really have to dig to find them. Meaning that most of the forums like this one are not be fully used by this whole apparently separate community.
Anyone have thoughts on why this is, how we could better link all of our resource groups, or if it's even a good idea?
BTW - It may already be common knowledge, but here's the link to the O.S. .Net IDE.

Are you aware of www.gotdotnet.com ?
You should be able to find alot of stuff there.
Dont forget that .NET has been around only for a few years, compared to Java and PHP...
Over time, more and more communities will be created and some might become as big as sourceforge.
I think that its all about time...

How can I call a code behind from a javascript code in an aspx page?

I'm using a java applet that paints a table-base database grid and running it on apache server. It works fine but after 2-3 hours of reloading (which initializes and draws the applet again to show the DB's most recent data), the browser will not render the applet.
When I put my mouse over the applet, I see a java.lang.outofmemory error.
The work-around is to open and close the browser(which kills the JVM instance).
How can I prevent this? Or better yet, how I can I flush the JVM's memory so that every time I repaint the applet, the JVM's stack will not overflood.
BTW, memory increase will only increase the time it takes for the applet to crash but I'd rather flush it when I refresh the browser somehow.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Robert

I'm trying to do a nested Repeater where I have two tables, one is my region and second is the projects table. There's a foreign key in the projects table for region. I am doing an inner join in my stored procedure and I need the data to be displayed like this:
Region 1
strDate strTitle strContent
strDate strTitle strContent
strDate strTitle strContent
Region 2
strDate strTitle strContent
strDate strTitle strContent
strDate strTitle strContent
Region 3
strDate strTitle strContent
strDate strTitle strContent
strDate strTitle strContent
Not like this:
Region 1
strDate strTitle strContent
Region 1
strDate strTitle strContent
Region 1
strDate strTitle strContent
Region 2
strDate strTitle strContent
Region 2
strDate strTitle strContent
Region 2
strDate strTitle strContent
The problem is that all the samples build the relation in the code behind, where as mine is done in the stored procedure doing a inner join. If someone could show me how to do this I would really appreciate it!!!
Thanks,
Jaime

I am planing to create a sound intensive web game, and I have some experience using DirectProducer. I hope to create a DLS in DirectProducer that will download to the client when they log onto my site which will have my custom instruments. The pages will then simply send a series of MIDI messages which will be performed by my custom instruments.
I know you can get MIDI working easily from a web page, but I don't really have a clue as to how I go about sending a DLS to the clients soundcard.
Would some smart person out there point me in the right direction of a tutorial or two?
Thanks
The Belly

Hi
I am developing a software in ASP and In VB6.0 for which i need the serial number of the hard disk. I searched thru the net and i was getting the programs which tell me the Volume Number of the drive (ie c: , d: etc).[only in VB not is ASP] According to my information, this volume number changes whenever that volume is formatted. Can anybody help in getting the Hard Disk serial number which is manufacturer defined and which will not change
thx in advance

in ASP simply you can't
unless you use custom components made in other languages like VC++.

On one or two servers on which I work I've found that two forward slashes (//) work as a comment in VBScript ASP pages whereas on other servers this generates an error and I can only use a single quote or a 'rem'.
Does anyone know what set of circumstances makes this use of two forward slashes allowable?
Thanks for any clues - Phil Meades

Forward slashes can be used as comments in javascript. In VbScript as u said, rem or single quotes will work.

Actually what I said was that on a couple of servers that I've used forward slashes *also* work in VBScript. The spec of my machine is XP Professional, IIS 5.1, asp.dll version 5.1.2600.1106. Also with .Net framework and Visual Studio .Net installed.
Here's the code of a sample page that just works fine on my machine but not on some others that I've used:
<%@ Language = "VBScript" %>
<%
//This is a comment
'and so is this..
rem and this
Response.Write "Hello there.."
%>

I came up with an idea for a client side validation framework (Javascript) which would allow a programmer to quickly and easily validate any number of input elements.
What I want to know is does something similar already exist?
1) So I don't reinvent the wheel
2) So I can steal any good ideas
Cheers
