ADO object model doesn't permit this. DAO has the objects and methods you need:
Database object
TableDefs collection
TableDef
Fields collection

I have an application using VB6 SP5 with Crystal Reports 7.0.1.192 installed at around 60 sites. Lately we have been running into application errors at some sites, mostly using WinNT and Win2000. A specific example is:
The instruction at 0x77fcbcbe referenced memory at 0xfffffff8. The memory could not be read.
I've also seen the same thing (diff address) saying memory could not be written. At one site running Win2000 this happens every time a particular Crystal Report is loaded. Other reports work correctly (most of the time), but I have no problems with this report at other sites.
A similar problem happened at another site running NT 4.0 but manifested itself as an automation error. That problem was resolved by replacing MSVCRT40.DLL with a later version, but the Win2000 site won't let me replace it...always get a permission error, even when logged in as administrator.
Does anyone know of a source for tools and/or training in tracking down this type of problem? I've been programming in VB since version 3 and have lots of development experience prior to that, and until recently have been able to resolve every problem encountered, but recently have been hit with a number of problems like this that are driving me nuts.

I hope this helps, I have run into some 'similar' errors using Crystal Reports 8.5. I ended up writing a program to check the version of particular files that are included in the bootstrap section of the .lst file that is created using Microsoft's package and deployment wizard against those on the client PC that the program would go on. If you find any files on the clients PC that are older in version number than what was included with the bootstrap file, you should recreate the package in the wizard and use a copy of the older version. There is some, but little documentation on MSDN that points to Windows 2000 having a problem(i.e. - security) updating certain files when installing a new application. Hope this helps somewhat, Crystal Reports can be a pain sometimes, I guess we all just have to find our little ways around it.

I need to write quotation mark inside quotation marks. But if I write for example "I said "Yes"..." it is interpreted as two strings. In C++ I would write "I said \"Yes\"...". How to handle this problem in VB?

I'm in real trouble. I have problem Delphi/4 and ActiveX DLL. Delphi generate error; Reaised Ole Exception, EOleException Error c0000005 Program Terminated message, when i call a function from DLL in Delphi. But Delphi can call all DLL functions properly, if i remove 1 or more function from DLL. That means, i can call any function from Delphi without any problem if i remove 1 function from DLL. ActiveX DLL written and compiled on Visual Basic 6(SP5). I'm using Win'98, Delphi 4, Visual Basic 6(SP5).
Please help me!!!

Hey, I'm getting a "Type Mismatch error" in VB when I try and pass a string into an ActiveX method. The method parameter comes up and says "As String" when typing in to call the function, and we tried putting it in a variable & just typing the string out in it... I used VC++6.0 to make it, so if there is something i could have done wrong, let me know as to what i might try doing when i make the function when adding a method, etc in VC++ (i made a light control in VC)

One possible mismatch is the format used for strings in the two languages. VC++ supports two types, char[] which contains a string followed by a null character, and a CString class, which must be set by a call to it's constructor method. VB includes a basic string type, but any operations done on a string return a VARIANT type unless the function specifies a string type by appending $ to the function name (ie Ucase$ instead of Ucase). So there are many possible mismatches. The very first thing I'd try, though, is to pass by value instead of by reference (the default in VB). The form of this would be
"ByVal sMyString as String". This type of call is used to pass a VB string to a C++ char[] variable.
According to one reference, VB5 Developer's Handbook, you will never be able to use a VB string with a C++ module that wasn't written deliberately for use with VB. That's probably a bit pessimistic, but I'm no expert in either language - still pining for Turbo Pascal, alas...

Open the port like you were using a file. Use the name "PAR1". If you want to do serial port access then use "COM1". The number represents the number of the port that you are trying to open.

I am using as OS is ME and VB version 6.
My applications runs well on Windows 98/Me and not on NT and 2000. what happens in windows NT and 2000 is that my software when clicked does nothing doesn’t starts no error codes nothing.
Anyways what my program does it in the starting it checks for the CD-ROM drive with a volume name MARITIMELAW.
How do I do it is by following command

After the above written code there is a second step which doesn’t involve anything much except a form display and then clicking on the image to move forward.

Firstly, stop shouting. Typing everything in CAPITALS is very bad manners and most people will likely ignore your post.
Secondly, what error messages are you getting. A VB program should be able to run unmodified on NT/2000 if it runs on 9x machines. You must be using some code that isn't supported on NT/2000 or you are missing some dlls. Or some ActiveX controls haven't been registered.
You'll need to supply more information about your project for us to be able to help.

Without any specifics, your question is difficult to answer...
Did you use an installation package to deploy your app to the NT/2000 machines? If not, those machines probably don't have the VB runtime dll's installed...

What DLL are you using? Is the error message a VB generated error or is the DLL generating it? You'll need to post some code or more details for us to assist.

The error message is a VB generated error message and the dll im using is a C++ dll (using _stdcall and its NOT a COM dll). The strange thing is that the error message don't appear every time and it never appear if i make a EXE file of the vb project. My source cod:

i am writing a program to capture image from quickcam start from video for window. i have been already able to read a frame of data by capSetCallbackOnFrame(). however, i don't know how to add the bitmap header and other neccessaries to make standard bitmap file.

You will need to get the type definitions that are defined in the Windows API from the APIViewer program and include them in your program.
You will Need the BITMAPINFO structure. And the BITMAPINFOHEADER. Look at MSDN to see how to fill both of these structures.
