Why? It's already been done and won't take you at least 6 months to write it if you go buy PCAnywhere or something equivelent. Microsoft has their's, called RemoteDesktop...
You'll be writing 2 seperate apps to do this. The server will run on the machine you want to control, while the client will run locally. You'll be P/Invoking ALOT of Windows API functions on the server to get the screen image, follow the mouse and keyboard events, and post new keyboard and mouse events coming from the client.
This kind of project will take an average of 6 months to develop. How much do you get paid in 6 months? Compare that to the off-the-shelf cost of PCAnywhere...

Hi,
I need help... How can I limit the rows in one field into 1 row only so that whenever I save something using VB, the content of that row would just be replaced by a new one. For example: in a textbox, if I enter a name and click save, the name that I typed would be saved on a database. If I enter a new name, the name that I entered before will just be replaced with a new one.
I used this code and I bind my richtextbox with a data control and it was running ok. But I still would like to ask for suggestions... Thanks...

You can't limit the number of rows in a table. In the past, when I've needed something like that it was usually because it was a setting I needed to store in the database. I created a SystemRegistry table where there were two fields, a keyname and a value (stored as nvarchar). That way you can store the name as somthing like this:
keyname value
frmMain\Firstname Mike
frmMain\Lastname Vernon
A bit of a poor example, but if you need to store system settings acrossed a clustered web application it becomes pretty convenient. If you needed to bind these fields, you could make a class that reads these settings and holds onto them and bind your controls to the class and not directly to the database.

I am trying to learn how to search through a hard drive and look for a file extension, is there a tutorial that has been written that shows how to do this?
I have a form with a button, and a checkedlist box. I would like to have the program search though a hard disk and output all the files that have the inputted extension.
How is this done? What about directories that have access denied error message comes up like c:\system volume information? How do I skip that directory?

I just noticed that when I write an entry into the Windows event log using one of the various overloaded WriteEntry methods I always get the following text below my description:

What number value? Are your talking about some kind of serial number representing a date? Like how many seconds from a base date, like Jan 1, 1970?

When you register the dll and copy the registered .dll to another directory
generates serious problem. even unregister both .dll and reregister the original dll again won't solve the problem. Probably i have to work with registry and delete some key( i am not sure which keys to delete).
another option for this kinda problem. I have listed all dll that have the same dll in VB's reference library.

You can't register the same .DLL multiple times. This is because the registration is based on the GUID's in the .DLL, not the location of the .DLL. Unregistering it and then reregistering the .DLL will only update the location of where the .DLL can be found when it's needed.

You might want to provide a description of the problem itself. Maybe there is another cause you haven't thought of, besides a registration issue...

Hello,
Ok, I have a table with alot of accounts and I want to copy only the accounts for a month at a time to a new table.
what is the fastest and best way to do this there are like 400,000 accounts that are going to be copied and i have to only copy accounts between the startdate and enddate that the user picks from date pickers. I am using vb.net and access as the datebase. Another problem is that the date in the original table is not in a standard format 1/1/2004 it is in a Timestamp which is time since 1/1/1900 and it lookes something like this 54745186 so i have to format it before i can check it against the dates the user enters. The way i am doning it know is like this, if anyone can suggest a faster way, cause this is taking like 10 mins.

Uhhh... Access is a desktop database. It was not designed for this kind of volume. Your not going to be able to speed this up very much at all since it works entirely in files. SQL Server is MUCH better at handling this kind of volume. If you really want to speed this up, migrate the database to SQL Server or even the MSDE first. In Access 2003, use the Upsizing Wizard...
And why would you copy all the records for a month into a new table? If you are looking to speed up future queries on that new table, the time your save then is only going to be eaten up by copying everything to a new table first. So in the end, your not really saving that much time...

I'm not sure why you want to pull the entire months of tables data. I suspect that the data set will take some time to fill. You could try a paramtized query. Only fill the dataset withthe requested row. The difference is you would add "Where RecID = ? ".
Your form would then have a text box for the user to enter an ID and a button to retrieve the data. Is this something that you could use?

I have a program that loads a excel spreadsheet into a datagrid on my form. I now want to take that same information and load it to a SQL Server table from the datgrid. Is this possible?

You wouldn't do anything with it. The autonumber field will get filled in when the recordset is finally added to the table.

Hi,
I have a dll writen in C++ which contains a fn that takes a char** parameter. Now, if I call this fn from a VB application, how can I specify aargument-value to the fn.
it shows a 'long' in my VB method call.

char** means : pointer to pointer of type char
pointers are 4 byte integers in Win32
so long is the VB6 type that can represent it..
