This probably isn't the answer you're looking for but hopefully it will help.
If you can afford to purchase a product you should check out ActiveReports by DataDynamics, they have an end user design component. Their website is located at www.datadynamics.com
I have no affiliation with them, other than being a satisfied customer.
Good Luck!

What kind of hardware is it? You'd be better off talking to the hardware companys support or doing an internet search for this kind of information.

Hi Y'all
I'm trying to import a text file into my Access 2000 database using the VBA function TransferText:
Dim db As DAO.Database
Set db = WerkDatabase
db.Execute _
"SELECT * INTO TempArtikel FROM [Text;FMT=FixedLength;HDR=No;DATABASE=" + ImportDir + ";].[artikel#asc];", _
dbFailOnError
db.TableDefs.Refresh
My schema.ini file is located in the same directory as the text file, and looks something like this:
[artikel.asc]
ColNameHeader=False
Format=FixedLength
MaxScanRows=0
CharacterSet=OEM
ARTNAR="ARTNAR" Number Width 15
OMS1AR="OMS1AR" Char Width 30
INHDAR="INHDAR" Number Width 5
PALCAR="PALCAR" Number Width 8
Where ARTNAR is the name of the column in the target database table (TempArtikel).
The problem is that ADO gives me the following error message:
3443 Can't create fixed width text file without column specification
which is pretty weird, because I did specify a length (15), right?
What am I doing wrong here?

I have been wondering:
1)if it is possible to access the DAO Workspace being used by a VB3/4 app. accessing a Access 2.0 database. This uses BLOBs written to the database and I do not have the structure for the BLOBS. Can these be deciphered? I thought this may be possible if one could access the Workspace, but I guess one would also need to know how the these are defined in the code? As is apparent, this is a 'legacy' app and I do not have access to the code, but want to use the info in the BLOBs for reports and other interfaces. Any help would be much appreciated.
2) Along a similar line of thought, is it possible to change the graphics in a Picture box in a compiled app's logon screen if one does not have access to the code? Or to call it from an app with customised logon screen, making the legacy logon screen screen invisible and just feeding it username and password from the customised logon screen? This is an internal app and no licensing issues are involved. Again, any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

I would like to create an instance of a Class on Form1 and be able to use that same instance on a second form. I want to avoid using global/public variables and collections in a module. Can this be done?

I guess you could create a get-property i Form1 that returns the instance of Class1:
public property get TheProperty as Class1
set TheProperty = myInstance
end property
So from Form2 do this to get the Class1 instance from Form1:
set obj=Form1.TheProperty
Hope this helps...

Does anyone know how to get around the 2048 bytes limit on command line parameter list?
I would like to drop a lot of files (infinite...) on my desktop icon.
But if the resulting command line (files plus path) is larger than then 2048 bytes then VB crashes.
I use Command$ to get the command line.

Did you try using the Win32 API function GetCommandLine ?

Have you tried it? I think not.
I placed MsgBox "Hello" in the first line of Form_Load().
You can't even get that line to work.
The same behaviour occur in C++ projects also if you try the
same thing. It is a Windows problem.
If you have a solution that works, please post it.

Well, I've tried this in VB and in Window 2k SP2 (my machine) it runs fine...
Maybe is the drag & drop thing your problem...
Compile to an .EXE and run the .EXE. The first time it shows 0 (obvious) and the subsequent times, it shows 5000.
To exit program, kill its task
<br />
Option Explicit<br />
<br />
Private Sub Form_Load()<br />
<BLOCKQUOTE>MsgBox "Hello World"<br />
MsgBox Len(Command$)<br />
Shell App.Path & "\" & App.EXEName & " " & String$(5000, "x")<br />
Unload Me</BLOCKQUOTE><br />
End Sub<br />

Tried it, doesn't work.
I don't think you are doing what I am doing.
Build your program, create a shortcut and place that on your desktop.
Create a directory with a long path, place a lot of files in it.
Select them all and drop them on your shortcut, make sure that resulting
commandline will be larger than 2048 bytes.
Your program will show a MsgBox saying :"Access to the specified device, path or file is denied."

I am not trying to be smart. If you have a solution a will be very happy.
I'm looking at sending files to a directory and use FindFirstChangeNotification() to find out if files have been copied. Then just run through the catalog with FileFind.
Cons: The files will be copied. Can that be hindered?
Or sending the files to a .bat file, list the files to a
text file and read that.
Cons: A DOS window will be shown, it will look bad on a slow
machine.

I have found a way to achieve dropping on the desktop.
Look at shell extensions part VI on this site.
