This is a place to share ideas. If you flood it with too much regulation... it may lose the appeal . I strongly believe the rating should be the motivating factor to push the author to write better articles.

I do agree with this... but we should make sure that the articles are updated to the levels - that most of the people can be benifited with it. It should not be just another article from the author - rather it should be meaningfull

Would it be possible to add a few fields by which search results could be sorted, such as popularity (since it takes into account the score and number of votes), date, etc.? (that's all I have in mind, perhaps some others have a few more fields by which to sort).
Wading through good and bad articles is never fun, and most often I use these to post links in the development forum to give users a list of articles about a particular topic. It would be nice to have the better articles listed first.

Can we have a look into the 'TODO' list.. so that we can get an idea of what not to be repeated on the page....
Also, we can get an idea of, what all can be done at a discussion forum / portal kind of site... if at all we want to design our own site

Is that all. Looks like we'll have to start thinking of some more things we'd like to see changed

Suggestion:
To fix the "licence issue" for new articles
In the submission wizard, ask clearly for a licencing statement.
Mark articles that were submitted including this information clearly (or, vice versa, distinctively mark articles lacking this information)
Or, even better provide a selection in the article wizard (and request similar information for submitted articles)
e.g.
( ) "CP Beer license" (Free, Copyrighted, view licence)
( ) "CP Afterwork license" (Free for noncommercial use, Copyrighted, view license)
( ) GPL (click to see license)
( ) Other - specify here [............................]
[ ] I understand all legal consequences of my selection above and yadda yadda yadda
for "Custom" provide a "custom license" field e.g. to enter a link to the license.
I don't know, however, if this is feasible legally, or would require to hire a horde of lawyers.

Article search only displays one page of results, "Next" (Page) is not clickable.
This happens even with very common terms like "MFC".

I've noticed that my CP newsletter includes stuff on C# and .NET, even though I don't have them checked. I do have MFC/C++ selected in my preferences.
My suggestion is to be more specific regarding .NET articles. Right now I have no interest in .NET, but I do have interest in C++. Focusing the MFC/C++ comments (which, I assume, is what's triggering the .NET information) to exclude .NET stuff would increase the signal-to-noise ratio for me.

Hello,
I'm sure the answer to this is obvious (to someone, but not me). I have found several code contributions I have liked and downloaded. I know there are discussions regarding these submissions on a Code Project message board somewhere. I've even somehow stumbled into them at times and have even submitted a question (and gotten an answer). But I'll be darned if I know how! I've searched groups like C# for articles concerning these projects but nothing shows up. I've searched by author as well as article title but nothing shows, even though I can find the article itself. Please tell me what I need to do. I don't see any message board dedicated to submitted projects.
Thanks,
Ray Mitchell

each article has it's own message board, on the article's page's bottom!

I really like most of the code on the site. My question is what is the license for the code listed here. May I use it in a commercial product?

read the small text on the bottom right edge of an article:
Article content copyright <...>, 2003
everything else Copyright © CodeProject, 1999-2004.
Advertise on The Code Project | Privacy
so you have to ask the author.

Generally speaking, if someone is posting something here, it's undoubtedly meant to benefit all programmers - so I would say that while asking would be a courtesy (and one I would encourage), I think it's reasonable to assume that you can use code here in a commercial environment.
The exceptions to that would be where the author explicitly states that it is only for use in non-commercial software, or if the license of the software in the article is incompatible with the licensing of the commercial product (eg, GPL in a closed source product).
On a legal basis, you're right - the copyright is retained by the original author, and that doesn't change just because it's posted here.

I, as most probably, ask a lot of hardware questions as well as programming questions. I was wondering if there was a possibility of adding a new message area for general computer hardware questions. I don't necessarily like the idea of cluttering the Lounge with them.

Hi,
as you know when I reply to somebody
there is the checkbox: Notify me by e-mail if someone answers this message
It would be a very useful improvement to have samething similar in two other places:
1)
At the end of each message
like:
[Reply][Email][View Thread][Get Link][Notify me]
2)
and at the end of each article !
Is that possible ?
That would be great !
