I just went through the Lathe Lesson - very impressive product, Jared! It's a shame that I'm only just beginning to get the hang of C++, as I really like geometry and calc. Good luck with the search!

I´m looking to outsource some projects and I was hoping some of you have experience in this area.

I´m looking to outsource where I can be paying as low as possible and have all communication via internet. I send detailed descriptions on what has to be done and how.

Is there any website where induvidual programmers offer their services along with a resume / hourly fee ?

Two phrases come to mind:
(1) You get what you pay for (In other words, if you don't pay much you won't get much)
(2) Buy cheap, buy dear (I've only heard my grandmother use this, essentially it means if you pay a cheap price for a product or service you will end up paying for it all over again when you realise the quality is not good and have to replace the item or re-do the work)

Hello All,

I am a Post Graduate Student in India doing my Forest Management. I wanted to know if there is any chance of earning my Pocket Money by doing some small Projects for organisations. I have a reasonably good command over C++ and JAVA. I also have access to 24 hr computer facility. It's illegal, and you can be imprisoned or deported for trying. Your best bet is to apply for a visa through the legitimate process, though I've heard that you are required to do so from outside the country. Your bio says that you are in the US; if you're here illegally you'll need to find a way to get out of the US without being caught, then apply for normal entry. If you are here on a legitimate visa - student or tourist, perhaps, you may have other options - contact the immigration officials for info. You can also find a lot of helpful information here[^].

I'd recommend NOT to call the immigration officials until outside the USA. It is a strict condition of a tourist visa that you are not permitted to change to a working visa, or even ask about it, while in the US.

I've been through US immigration as a tourist and for business (working for a UK company with a reseller in the states) and the officials are the most serious and unhumerous people I've ever met. I remember a line from a film that went "We at the FBI do not believe we have a sense of humour" and that can be applied to immigration officers too.

The whole US Immigration seems a bit absurd to me. I was asked on a previous visit by an immigration officer if I was involved with the German Nazi party between the years 1933 and 1945. And I really mean an immigration officer asked me the question, not just ticking the box on the I-94 visa waiver form. Look at my bio to see how absurd that question is.

The reason I said this was that I remember reading somewhere that it was strictly forbidden to change from a tourist visa to anything else and to ask about it was to invite suspicion about your true intentions. As I understand it the US Immigration can deport or detain someone if they believe that they are entering or have entered the US under false pretences.

I've heard that, and it strikes me as absurd. If a visitor to our country becomes enamoured of it, why should one not inquire about becoming a citizen or a legal resident? If this is really going on it should be stopped immediately! Our country was built by immigrants who wanted to make a better life for themselves and their families; it's sheer lunacy to turn away or intimidate people who make perfectly legitimate requests for information!

That's what it says on the backside of the green visa waiver. The form also contains yes/no questions whether you're a terrorist, drug dealer, convict, etc. Smile | :)
