In vb6 we could create Templates so that we could double click on it and we would have our form with all our code already there.
I dont know much about visual inheritance but in vb.net
I have form that i use allover the place logo, a toolbar (add-edit-delete buttons)
btnOk and Cancel and all the generic code behind it.
My question
Is it possible to create a template in vb.net so that we I create a new project a could choose
that MyFormTemplate or
if it's possible to do with visual inheritance.Would i inherit the code as well and then customize depending
on the functionality?
Thanks
Thanks A lot

Hi,
I am using this property of web browser control
ie.Document.Script.Document.Write "Text"
and it is giving me this error.
Run-time Error '-2147467259(80004005)':
Automation error
unspecified error
and in debug window it shows
"Object doesn't support this action"
--------------------------------------------------
Should I have to do some task for enabling automation. ???

Document.Write needs a document to write on. Does the browser control display document? If you don't want to change an existing document, I suggest you look for a method "Document.Open". In JavaScript window.document.open() opens an empty document.

Ok, MailSlots are time consuming. What IPC methods are available that are common between these two languages?

Are you using VB/VC++ 6.0, or .NET, or a mix of both?

This is a .NET development.

Is it possible to utilize MailSlot interprocess communications in Visual Basic? If so, how do I do it?

It is probably possible, but the documention on it is written for C++. That can be found here[^]. There is no class in the .NET Framework that wraps the MailSlot protocol, so you either have to find a thrid party control or library to do it for you or write your own from scratch.
Entirely possible in VB.NET, but a bit time consuming...

We need to know a bit more, like what the rest of the myCommand object is setup with and what the connection object looks like. It would appear that the rest of the command object is not setup with a SELECT statement that is compatible with the ExecuteReader method. Also, how is myReader declared?

Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Module SQL
Public sqlSelect As String
Public myConnection As New SqlConnection()
Public myReader As SqlDataReader
myConnection.ConnectionString = "data source=JLZONE\JLZONE;initial catalog=PMC;integrated _
security=SSPI;persist security info=False;workstation id=JLZONE;packet size=4096"
myConnection.Open()
sqlSelect = "Select * from Users"
Dim myCommand As New SqlCommand(sqlSelect, myConnection)
myReader = myCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.CloseConnection)
While myReader.Read()
Console.WriteLine("myreader record = " & " " & myReader.GetValue(1))
End While
myReader.Close()
myConnection.Close()
myConnection.Dispose()
End Function

OK. Everything looks good with your code. Sooooo....
Two possibilities exist that can generate this problem:
One is the connection string. Does the database exist? Does is require a username and password to be sent in the connection string? Does it have a real live table called 'Users' or is it a View? Does the Select statement really work?
The second is a busted MDAC installation. You might want to try reinstalling MDAC 2.6 SP2 or better. You can pick that up here[^].

Hi,
I need to send email but the requirement is to send it without smtp server. Please tell me which control to use in order to do this.
Thanks

You must have an SMTP server _somewhere_ if you are mailing to the internet in general; internet mail requires it. [There are some localized mail systems that don't use SMTP.]
However, you don't need a _local_ server. If you can access internet sites directly, you can do the send from a local process to the remote site directly. To do this properly you _MUST_ understand the relevant internet standards. Basically, however, you need one of the many .NET components that can send mail using MX lookup, rather than only forwarding it to a proper SMTP server.

Hi Group!
I need to write an application that will allow me to connect and check the current Antivirus Update both local and remote.
Any ideas, how to go about this;
Thanks.

You better check with Symantec first before you go plodding thru their servers with code that isn't theirs! Don't want to crash their stuff now do we? While your at it, you could also ask them if they would be willing to give you documentation on what the process is.

Wordpad doesn't have an object library like Word or Excel does. WordPad is nothing but a user interface wrapped around a Rich Text Box control. For Windows Forms apps, it's simple.
But, there is no Rich Text Box control that comes with VS.NET that works on Web pages. Here, your going to have to search the sites, like www.asp.net or download.com or whatever, to find a 3rd party control to do what you want. I found a few out there, but they weren't free!

Hi
Does anyone knows how to control .Net Windows from VB script or Javascript? What I m trying to do is in my application, web browser control is embbeded on a Form and when a user click on to the link on the html page in web browser control, another form must be open up in the main application.
I have try sevral way such as writing another com object to read process name.
Dim localAll As System.Diagnostics.Process() = system.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName("myprogram ")
by referencing localall(0).mainwindowtitle will return myprogram.title. How can I call methods from "myprogram"(main application).If i can call methods from main application, then i would be able to open a form in main application.
Pls help me asap.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I'm having problems trying to figure out how the new VS.NET macros work.
In VS6 you could add a file to a project by using this statement:
Application.Projects(1).AddFile("test.cpp")
They changed the object module, so this no longer works. I tried to figure out what the equivilant statement is, without any success.
Can any one help?
thanks,
Ed
