It just spent five minutes or so doing that to me as well - on Chrome, not FF.

Have tried the same on FF, Chrome and Safari. Pretty much got the same result (error page) throughout the day.

We are having database issues. We got things up and running and are in the process of determining the cause of the problem.

I'm sure I'm not the only one to find this irritating, but when I copy and paste code into a message, if I use the auto system to provide a code block I get this:

<pre>            for (int i = 0; i < myDataTable.Columns.Count; i++)
                {
                myDataGridView.Columns[i].HeaderText = myDataTable.Columns[i].Caption;
                }
</pre>

Which looks like this when rendered:

for (int i = 0; i < myDataTable.Columns.Count; i++)
    {
    myDataGridView.Columns[i].HeaderText = myDataTable.Columns[i].Caption;
    }

OK, I can add the language myself to get the syntax highlighter to work:

                {

for (int i = 0; i < myDataTable.Columns.Count; i++)

But ... if I paste the same code "as is" and add the code block afterwards:

            for (int i = 0; i < myDataTable.Columns.Count; i++)
                {
                myDataGridView.Columns[i].HeaderText = myDataTable.Columns[i].Caption;
                }

The initial pre tag goes in the wrong place:

            <pre lang="c#">for (int i = 0; i &lt; myDataTable.Columns.Count; i++)
                {
                myDataGridView.Columns[i].HeaderText = myDataTable.Columns[i].Caption;
                }</pre>

Which means the first line is unindented to the margin, but the rest isn't.

for (int i = 0; i < myDataTable.Columns.Count; i++)
                {
                myDataGridView.Columns[i].HeaderText = myDataTable.Columns[i].Caption;
                }

It's easy enough to fix, but ... it niggles, every time! Big Grin | :-D

Not 100% sure what you mean.

You past the code as-is (so it doesn't do any processing - just pastes text). You should see

            for (int i = 0; i < myDataTable.Columns.Count; i++)
                {

in the text box as you type.

You mean add the PRE tag like:

                }
</pre>

(which would render

for (int i = 0; i < myDataTable.Columns.Count; i++)

    myDataGridView.Columns[i].HeaderText = myDataTable.Columns[i].Caption;
    }

I don't think that's what you mean though.

(You've probably worked out years ago that we outdent the text to make it as flush-left as possible)

Paste a block of code, select "as is"
The code appears indented:

Highlight it, and use the "code" widget to select the language: text will do the same as c#:

Notice that the pre tag is flushed right to the first non-space character.
Then when it's posted (and in the preview)it looks like this image:

Because all the "loose spaces" to the left of the pre tag are (correctly) swallowed leaving the rest of the text "orphaned" with their original indentation.

What should happen is that the code widget should put the pre tag flushed left, not right, then the auto formatter will left justify the indentation correctly:

for (int i = 0; i < myDataTable.Columns.Count; i++)
    {
    myDataGridView.Columns[i].HeaderText = myDataTable.Columns[i].Caption;
    }

Does that make sense?

A great number of hyperlinks on CP is defective:

1. The (first page of) active questions in Q&A Quick Answers[^] shows 20 questions, 5 of their links do not work, they yield a page with "Sorry, the item you requested could not be found."
e.g. https://www.codeproject.com/Questions/844561/how-to-solve-error-like-Server-Error-in-Applicatio
or how to solve error like "Server Error in '/' Application. Maximum request length exceeded" Error while runinng a asp,net upload file program?[^]

2. A number of article links (which I copy and store frequently for future reference) are no longer OK.
Two days ago I revisited http://www.codeproject.com/KB/IP/CSHTTPServer.aspx which I knew to be an old-style link; to my surprise it got redirected automatically to https://www.codeproject.com/Articles/17071/Sample-HTTP-Server-Skeleton-in-C. I saved that link, it worked. Yesterday and today it no longer works, it yields a page with "Do not try and find the page. That’s impossible. Instead only try to realise the truth."

3. On my list-of-articles page (https://www.codeproject.com/script/Articles/MemberArticles.aspx?amid=648011 editor fails to automatically insert clickable links!) all links to my articles work except one:

Furthermore, when I search for articles with Embedded HTTP Server in their title, I find some, one of them is shown as

Embedded .<wbr>NET HTTP Server

I don't know why that wbr is showing (it does not exist in the article!).

My suspicion is something has changed in the handling of HTML tags resulting in a change of the SEO-part of a lot of links, causing them to now fail.

I obviously don't mind the SEO efforts, however I would like to get an alternative URL, so we can access articles (and any other item that has a visible number) by that number without being affected by the SEO stuff; that way we can insert references in code comments that have a high probability to work even many years in the future...

ADDED 17:09 the failing links stopped failing consistently, some of them now work every so often.

PS: years ago I suggested to display the server name (Web01,...) at the top of every page, but that idea wasn't accepted. If it had been, all the above would have been qualified with server information...
