It is unfortunate, but anything created, built or written by man or god can be used for a noble purpose or for an ignoble purpose. Weapons famously can be used to attack or to defend, and nefarious leaders can twist an attack on a neighbor into a defense against that neighbor in the minds of their countrymen.
But any object can be used as a weapon. Just think of the torches and pitchforks of the townspeople who chased the "monster" in Frankenstein?
Here in the USA, even the Bible has been used for evil purposes. Europeans arrived here to "Christianize" the Native American heathen "savages," often killing or enslaving them in the process. Still today, the Christian "conservatives" use the Bible to justify discrimination against Jews, Islamics, Wiccans and other non-Christian religious groups.
I am not happy that the code I write may be used for illegal, immoral, or despicable purposes. Unfortunately, once I write it and "put it out there," it has a life of its own with which I interact only to the extent that I provide bug fixes and feature enhancements.

Not having any options to say NO to objectionable choices totally invalidates this poll, IMHO. 
Just because the code works, it doesn't mean that it is good code.

I had to say I don't have an opinion. I wouldn't want the software used for what I consider immoral purposes. However, there are some things that are illegal or unethical that I don't consider immoral, and those wouldn't bother me.

In essence most of us would have little say n what our code might be sold or utilised for.

What this survey teaches by its selection of options is how polling information is manipulated. Any kind of pole. Not just politics - fashions, food, entertainment, you name it . . . (we can have a poll on that, too).
So - an 'honest' percentage of preferences is given on a dishonest selection of answers.
Out in the typical polling space, it's usually a bit more subtle: a series of questions phrased with a certain bent, along with answers, if read, with built-in insinuation. All of this preceding the real question-of-interest. Now, when answered, the was a subtle but deliberate push towards whatever the poll was really trying to prove (prove, not measure).
In an interesting way, it's like cherry picking data after supplying their own selection of cherries.
Unfortunately, so far as I can discern, people will continue to be affected more by their emotions and wanting 'to belong' than there intellect.

All the "I'm not OK with ..." options are missing, leaving just "I have no opinion" which is the closest I can get to me real feelings.
And the biggest "missing option" is: "I have no control at all over what my software is used for" - given that anything (including Paint or Word) can be used for - say - kidnap notes, that is the real option.

That is a separate issue though isn't it?
You might not have control over what others use your software for but that doesn't mean you are okay with it. It also doesn't mean you have to lose sleep over it even if you aren't happy about it.

Illegal: in some nation it's legal marrying 9 years old or having intercourse with animals, in some it's illegal to own firearms. Being legal or not does not affect me.
Unethical: the ethics of whom? WWII Japanese Fighter pilots had strong ethics and they shot down pilots who parachuted, due to their ethic - antithetical to ours.
Morals: same as above, it really depends on the context.
IDGAF. Just don't use it for dumb things.

Exactly. Big time mistake not having this option. Invalidates the poll IMHO.
I have noticed that some of the more recent polls are missing some very important options. I hope that is not by design to funnel responses into a certain path, over another; and rather, caused by a silly oversight or mistake by the pollster.

Agreed. At the risk of sounding like an irate internet commentator... who suggested/vetted this poll?!
Apparently I'm either okay with illegal/immoral/unethical or I don't have any opinion. My faux outrage leads me to believe that the majority of the 70%+ (at time of this ranting) of answers which claim not to have an opinion are in fact not okay with any of the above.
The options feel like something suggested by a major IT firm (Amazon/Google/Microsoft/FB/etc.) that wants to claim most developers and their own staff just don't care and the ones walking out in protest over whatever project are simply the whiny minority.
And there you have it, my conspiracy theory of the week!
