It works again though, but even though I'm signed in it forgot all my preferences.

Mine hasn't needed a restart, but it did lose my style preferences and move all my curly brackets this morning. Which was annoying enough in it's own way.
I'm starting to really hate the VS settings dialog.

Luckily, I use most defaults, so it wasn't very hard to get my configuration back

I don't know about 2019, but with VS2017, if you're trying to keep all installer files up to date (since MS no longer regularly publishes updated ISOs), it's already well over 20GB each time a new update is published.
(I'm not talking about letting VS get updates within itself, which just updates the components you have installed--rather, I'm talking about letting the installer update everything that's different from your setup folder)

When I posted earlier in the week for the first time this year I was going to make a comment about how my only messages since 2016 had been about MQOTD, but then I couldn't see any for a few days and didn't like to mention it unless their demise had been for some unfortunate or unpleasant reason.
