The employees at Disneyland Paris were apparently told in no uncertain terms that referring to it as "Mouschwitz" would result in immediate termination of employment.
Apparently, they switched to "Duckau" ...
And think about it: What's the rent like within a reasonable travelling distance of Disneyland? A two-bedroom rental in London will cost you around £1250pcm - so that's around $19,000 per year just for a roof over your head. What's the taxes on $30,000? And how much does that leave you per month?
You certainly aren't going to get a good mortgage on that kind of wage, so buying is out.

I'm no geography teacher, but surely there are places closer to Disneyland to live than London? No wonder they don't have any money left if they have to commute across/under the channel every day

Coffee hasn't kicked in and had to read your post twice before I got you were joking. 
That said, the area around Disneyland is INSANELY expensive. Last time I was out in that area prices at chain restaurants near, but not in, the park were 100%+ higher than 10-20 miles away. For example, an ice cream sundae that costs ~$4 here was nearly $12 at the same chain. No changes to the contents, the price was higher because of proximity to Disneyland.

I imagine part of it is because they CAN charge those prices, but also part of it is that they themselves have to pay the premium for renting in such a desirable location.
End of the day it's just supply and demand, don't like the prices then don't go, if enough people boycott it they will become more reasonable. Problem is, too many people are willing to pay the prices.

People are willing to pay the prices because they are still more reasonable than prices inside the park or at least perceived as such. I assume it has more to do with location and rent for the property itself.
The area around Disneyland is very well maintained. Sidewalks are swept multiple times a day, every surface like the edges of buildings or traffic lights that a bird could land on has those spike stripes so they are unable so they don't relieve themselves on the walkways.
It is devoid of any non-approved life and unnaturally quiet. Was there for almost a week and couldn't recall hearing a single bird. I'd go so far as to say that it feels creepy and artificial. Of course I didn't visit the park so it might be different inside.
