I have an Acer Iconia-somethingorother tablet here that I bought a few years ago, as a replacement for some older tablets that manufacturers never provided updates for. It's running Android 6, and (lo and behold) the manufacturer's never provided any update for it either.
But that's not the point I'm trying to make. It's plugged into the wall and has been in sleep mode, quite literally, for months. Sitting on my desk, within eyesight, with the display turned off.
This week, I've watched it power itself on a few times. Not just getting out of sleep mode and going back to the "desktop" (what do you call the desktop anyway on a tablet...? But I digress again). Eventually it goes back in sleep mode, like it's been set up to do.
This morning alone, I've watched it reset itself at least 3 times. I'm not doing anything with it. Whatever it's doing while it should be sleeping, is causing it to crash hard and reset itself...repeatedly.
The few times I do use it, it seems to crash and reset itself if I look at it wrong. A while ago I figured if it's going to go to waste, I might as well route the headphone output into my stereo's AUX input and have it play MP3s. Nope, sorry, it stutters and stammers all over the place, and...eventually resets.
This is worse than Windows in the mid-90s. The worst user-mode application should never manage to take down an entire OS even if it tries.
I already own 4 Android-based tablets. The only OS update I've ever seen for one of them got it from Android 4.2 to 4.3. I've stopped buying into the lie that Android manufacturers are now providing OS updates on a regular basis to fix fundamental problems like this. I'm done buying Android tablets with the hope that the next version of the OS might be more reliable.
Did I have a point to make? Probably not. You can draw whatever conclusion you want from what I've already written.

Have you tried backing up your data, performing a reset to factory defaults, then reinstalling only the stuff you need? It could be that the system hasn't got enough RAM to load everything it's trying to load.

If you:
a. Disable automatic updating of apps
b. Install No-root Firewall[^], and be very judicious with what you allow to contact the Interwebs
... Don't be too surprised if all your troubles go away.

Thing is, all the Android-based tablets I've ever owned are flaky. After I've established that much, they've all gone through a factory reset, and I've hardly reinstalled any app on them after that.
Yet they continue to crash at a whim.

Or maybe the hardware is getting flaky.
A middle-aged laptop of mine started doing really weird things a few weeks after I installed Linux.
One day I booted it to Win7, it's previous sole OS. It barely got off the ground before crashing.

Back in the 60s, a single little switch brought down much of the northeast of the US and a large part of Canada. Strangely, in 2003 another one happened that covered pretty much the exactly same area. The latter affected about 55M people from what I was just reading. The 60's one would have as well, but there just weren't as many people to affect at the time.
But, India is the all time winner, with one in 2012 that apparently affected 600M+ people. We barely have enough people in the US to match that if we went for a nation-wide failure.

Beautiful indeed, but my memory of our holiday in Bretagne is that it rained most of the time. After camping there my uncle swore never to go on a camping trip again

We had a day and a half of rain, but a lot of cloud and wind, but then for sailing you dont mind so much, because you are at least going fast.
Had a day and a bit of solid sunshine though, so all in all a pretty good holiday.
Five mates on a boat drinking for a week anyway is always going to be a hell of a laugh!

As the most experienced (been sailing since I was 4) I had the final say, though two others on the boat had experience, one a recent convert to sailing, and very keen, who had organised the trip, tended to run things minute to minute. But I was happy with that, he wants and needs experience. So I would take the boat in and out of the pontoons for example, or stand by while one of the others had a go.
The currents were surprisingly not too bad, given the massive tidal range there (up to 14 meters), we had a fairly lowish tidal coefficient (half moons) and had at most a knot of current, with a bit of confused water round one headland (but we were very close in sight seeing).
It is a fantastic area to learn to sail though, and navigate, more rocks, bouys, markers and lighthouses than you could want, and also very pretty, with good food!
