My point was, passing on either side is just as dangerous. You said that passing on the right was more dangerous than passing on the left. Why would that be? It could only be true if people who were moving over to the right were less attentive than when they moved to the left.

The physical rationale behind forbidding passing on the right is that the mirror on the right-hand side of the car is farther from the driver. This means (assuming that the mirrors on each side are symmetrical) that the field of view on the right is more limited.
The wider the vehicle, the larger the distance to the right-hand mirror, so attempting to overtake a truck or bus on the right can be especially dangerous.

There are those who believe that they can change lanes anytime, without signaling or spending any thought on the consequences. Made such an aquaintance a few weeks ago. Ben Hur was on his way home, don't dare to be in his way.
And the dreamers? I guess that pulling over and/or hitting the brakes is their knee jerk reaction to anything that wakes them up from their slumber.

It's illegal in many countries to overtake on the right (if they drive on the right), or on the left (if they drive on the left). This is true even if the car in the leftmost (rightmost) lane is crawling along.
The slow driver, OTOH, is typically liable for obstructing traffic, not keeping to the right (left), and being an a***hole.

From the wrong side it is a nasty infraction, usually on highways it's "allowed" though because you *can* change lane and there is no rule that states that rightmost lanes have to be faster than left ones... therefore you are not overtaking, you are changing lane and going faster than the rightmost lane.
If the driver on the rightmost lane is an incompetent idiot and changes lane without looking and without signalling he/she can cause a nasty accident, but that's true also if noone is overtaking from the left.
Outside highways though it is reason for extremely painful sanctions, at least in Italy.

Or do your research, and realise that all the research on what causes heart attacks, strokes, obesity, and the like doesn't point to fat (which is perfectly healthy stuff), but to sugar (which, like oxygen, is a volatile substance that can cause major problems for your heart, liver, kidneys, brain, etc.)

Possible non-linguistic arguments:
0) Better beer?: the dominance of the UK and the presence of the Czech Republic on the list suggests that good beer may well be a factor but the argument falls down when you get to America. And why aren't the Belgians in the top 5? Those lads know how to brew.
1) Weather?: at first glance it seems to be places where its hot in summer so the population have to drink to cool down and it's too cold in the winter to contemplate leaving the pub. India and Mexico kind of buck the trend, though.
2) Price?: certainly knocks the Scandinavian types down the list a bit (still a very good showing from Denmark, mind) but hang on, beer duty in the UK is pretty obscene and we're still top of the pop-swillers.
3) Religious types/vegans/health nuts/general weirdos?: no shortage of these in the UK so scratch that one.
4) Better things to do?: is there something really awesome to be doing in Poland, Nigeria, Ecuador, the US Virgin Islands and other places that totally fail to dent the list? Maybe, but I very much doubt it.
I think the OP is correct, it's all about speaking English ...
