Well, I successfullydefended my PHD dissertation today, finally, so now I can officially claim the title of Dr. It only took 8 years thanks to a stroke delay, but it's done, so now I'm trying to figure out what's next.

Over here, the Ph.D document is called a dissertation, Thesis is for undergraduate and Masters stuff. My Disertation was "Development of an integrated Reservoir and Operational model for Marginal oil fields.
Basically it was applied math and numerical solution of partial differential equations implemented in C#

My Ph. D is in Petroleum Engineering.
For me, a major accomplishment was standing up for an hour for my defense. That's the longest I've been able to stand since the stroke 5 years ago.

I'm well aware of that, when I told people I was working on a PHD, often the answer was that once I finished they wouldn't consider talking to me.It seems to depend on each company's culture, some seem to cherish having Ph.D.'s on staff, others not.
