 Yes indeed, this is a strange question.
Killing the supplier means you'll soon run out of suppliers and go hungry or wind up in jail, either way, don't do it. Being friendly with a meat purveyor has it's benefits! (my wife manages 10 steakhouses so I should know!) Here's a tip...tip the butcher. They'll eventually remember you. Hmmm, looks like steak tonight!

Well ... I eat meat. But I don't kill the animals myself, because if nothing else it would really annoy 1) the farmer, and 2) the local police. I do kill Dij's prey when it's too badly damaged to release, but I don't eat them, or enjoy it.
There are strict rules in the UK about how you can kill animals for consumption. (Our local abattoir - part of the butchers shop - had to close because the ceiling wasn't high enough)
Would I kill an animal for food if I had to? Yes - but until then I'll leave it to the professionals.

That sounds ok, as Long the professionals do it right, what ever this means.... But also your statement sounds like delegate the delicate issues to the "authorities".
Please understand me correctly, I also eat meat and do not kill the animals myself. But the more I read about it, the more questions I get

I think of it this way: thousands of years ago we made a contract with chickens, pigs, cows, sheep, ...
We'd protect them from wolves,
foxes, hunger; we'd heal them, help them, breed them, feed them. In return, we'd eat them at the end.
Did you know that the most common bird on the planet is the domestic chicken? In 2008 over 9 billion chickens were slaughtered for food in America alone. How many do you think there would be alive on the whole planet in ten years time if everybody went vegetarian tomorrow?
It's bad for individual chickens, but it's been can good for their species up to now.

I think anyone who eats meat should at least a few times in their lives kill and butcher an animal for food.
It is too easy to treat meat as just some product, and not recognise it's true cost.
When I see meat thrown away, I get really angry.

If you are full and can't take a bite - still finish your meat. You can leave the garnish, but try to finish the meat.

You should know where it comes from, yes; but you need not kill yourself to get that understanding. I doubt that there'd be many (modern) kids that would eat meat directly after killing it.
It also has to be explained that it is not just "killing"; it is part of the food chain, and a lot cleaner than a pack of wolves. Animals that we raise are not hunted, have little to none parasites and are generally well-fed, to die a relative painless death compared to nature.

No, it's respectfull to have a butcher do it, and not a programmer. One who knows what he is doing and doesn't waste meat.

I'm happy that I recently learned how to cut up a chicken in the same a similar way a butcher does*. I will never butcher a cow, since that is too much meat for my fridge. There's a restaurant near with exotic meats where I like to eat - but I'm not stupid enough to propose me killing and butchering a crocodile. The crocodile may not understand and turn the table on me

Not a common pastime for modern kids, and not much animals to hunt in Central London. Killing something is hard. I had the luck that I could practice on fish first.

Or at least watch a slaughter ....
A few months ago a butcher slaughtered two pigs in Switzerland in public to show people what that means. There were big protests against this public slaughtering ... I can not understand this hypocrisy.

Make people damn well aware of where their bacon is coming from. It isnt pretty, killing an animal, it is grotesque, sad, ugly. It is only those who can face doing so who have earned the right to eat meat.
