I started a new job on Monday and found that everything (Windows) is Windows 10 (Enterprise). Good old Windows 7 is gone, gone, gone, dammit!
However, having been a protestant against this exercise in form over function (possibly worse than iCrap) for a long time, I am now forced to use it to earn a living - and they are paying me a lot more than my previous job so my policy is now not to complain but to accept and adapt.
In addition, since this is a government (county) job they are doing wonderful things like not letting developers be administrators of their own machines restricting what we can change and/or install. I am now finally on VS2017 which seems to actually be working OK at the moment. Oh, and can anyone spell GIT? We are moving from the perfectly acceptable TFS to GIT for some reason so a lot of the existing projects (over 500 of them) are being transitioned or are half and half, which is very confusing.
They also appear to hate gmail and block all access to it. Luckily, Code Project is OK.
I'll let you know how it goes as I get more used to this flat, visually... (what's the opposite of "stunning"?), yet confusing interface.
[update] Although using GIT I cannot install a Visual Studio GIT extension as this requires admin permissions - which I don't have!

"Numbing" - perfect!
The main problem I have is there is no indication of which window is "on top" of which other window since there are no 3-D borders or shadows that give your eye the cues it needs.
A few times a window has popped up but is wasn't obvious because the thin lines at the edges lined up with existing thin lines on the window underneath so I didn't notice any change especially when I am working on three wide screens and sometimes the window comes up "over there" instead of here where I am looking and expecting it!

Isn't that insane? You can't even tell what window has focus anymore.
Settings, Personalize, Colors, then check the Title Bars box below "Show accent color on the following surfaces".
This will restore a bit of sanity to this plain white uniform world. You'll probably want to check the other box just above it while you're at it.
The sad thing is that starting with 1803, they no longer respect that setting for most so-called "Fluent Design" apps (at least, they're not longer setting the window caption color)

Four days in and I am getting more used to it. You are right, it does the job. I will be using it since I have no choice but it will probably be a while before I actually "like" it.

I do not hate Winders 10. Windows 7 was a fine acceptable OS I agree. Windows 10 is pretty good once you get it up and running. iFruit though. Wife has one of those. Always feel bad for her. Bought her a Surface a while back. She loves it. Has to use the Ithingy for work. She is less a fan everyday now.
Currently have A windows 7, Windows 10, Ubuntu, Mint computers setup and running. all are acceptable. Though I am not a huge fan of Ubuntu's layout. Also, own Android and iOS devices. Android is soo much better.
Your mileage and habits may vary.
I agree though. Not a huge fan of GIT but really NOT a fan of moving from something that works to something else just because you can. That sounds like what is happening to you. Those things never go well.

My son is an artist and bought himself the latest iPad, "because that's what real artists use". After a few days he took it back and bought the latest Surface as he wanted "a real computer he could actually use" and it still did everything he needed for his art anyway - plus apparently Photoshop works way better on it.

Interesting...for a long time things like Photoshop apparently worked better of the Macs, and Apple charges a lot more. Have to say they tend to do a better job of packaging however. Of course for the artsy people who do not understand technology the packaging is what matters.

My son is also fairly knowledgeable on the various technologies having worked for HP, Microsoft, Apple and Samsung at various times before giving it all up for his art (after his first $5,000 for just one painting sale).

Forogar said iPad not Mac, so don't think Photoshop would have run at all or if it did it would be a cut down for a phone program.

Yeah I have a file server at home running 2000 and the backup is running 2003. Until recently I also had a machine running Vista which worked great from the beginning but then had a catastrophic disk crash and died. I have a couple of Linux systems on VMs along with a DOS 6.2 for nostalgia's sake.

In this case, I'd go with "unobtrusive". 
I'd rather have an OS that lets me get on with doing stuff - even if that's just procrastinating - than an OS that wants to show off its "stunning" effects.
Think about it: when you open an application, would you rather have that application open straight away, or have to wait five seconds for the OS to play its "stunning" lookit-me-imma-open-your-app animation?
And how much time do you spend looking at your wallpaper through the translucent titlebar / taskbar / Start Menu background, versus the time you spend looking at the applications you're running?
The UI should be nice, but not to the extent that it distracts from what you're really trying to do.

I definitely didn't want a "stunning" interface - I also didn't want an interface where you can't tell if anything has changed or what sub-window is part of the current application or is a pop-up from somewhere else.
The Windows 7 UI with three-D window frames and shadowing was just enough to tell one window from another without being obtrusive.
In addition I think Microsoft must have shares in some large monitor manufacturing companies as they designed a UI that needed huge amounts of screen real-estate, mostly blank.

Now that we have 4K monitors, they expect us to waste the extra resolution on resizing everything so all elements take up 150% of the pixels they used to. I fail to see how that's any improvement.
Of course if you keep everything at its original size, text gets too small to read on a 4K monitor unless it's physically large(ish). I solved that problem by using a 40" 4K TV. No resizing needed, and I now have more screen real-estate than I've ever had before.

Ack. I'm not sure what I'd do without Classic Start Menu. Otherwise, W10 is a pleasant experience, even as one that clung to W7 as long as possible. My assimilation was caused by needing a version IIS of IIS that supported Server Name Indication so I could host more than one HTTPS site on a box.

Learn where stuff hides. I haven't bothered with Start Menu replacements in 10, 8.x was another matter and required, 10 just has stuff in different places and learning where they are allows you to jump on any machine and be quasi productive.

I have to use it on my laptops because it was the only OS available for it but I do NOT use it on my desktop machines and this applies to both home and work. I absolutely despise the UI of W10 and I really wish they supported different styles of UI like XP and W7 used to. If it did I certainly would not be using the default UI.

It's a modern OS like Win7, Win 8.x, OS10, and most if not all mainstream flavors of *nix. Give me a computer with any of those, and I can plug in an external a keyboard, mouse, and a few monitors and convert caffeine into code.
