What's that - there's an ethics test too? Crap.

I am absolutely certain I don't want to live in a world in which you would never be offended.

I wouldn't doubt some people do just that. How would they know (until it's too late)?

That's a real doobie of a question. I'll need to hold a joint conference with my buds to figure it out.

Does anyone do Windows dev work on a Linux box? I'm assuming you can't do WPF stuff on a Linux box, but web projects should be doable, right?
I know we can't use Visual Studio (because it's a WPF app now), but are the alternatives in Linux suitable?

I assume you have heard of Mono, a rich open-source cross-platform port of .NET

From what I have heard it is quite robust (but as you say no WPF)

I heard Mono ain't the best choice when doing MVC apps.
I was looking for someone that's gone completely to the dark side and moved to a Linux dev platform while still doing Windows (MVC) apps.
I'm assuming that it would also be easier to switch to MySQL to avoid having to setup a VM just to run SQL Server, but other concerns would be using Entity Framework, etc. I assume the connection strings need to be changed to identify the MySQL provider, but will EF6 (or any of the MVC assemblies for that matter) allow me to dev on Linux?

LOL I was assuming Linux was your target! I respect your ambition but have no help to offer.
BTW:
I have a weird setup here: I am typing this on a Windows machine but I develop inside a Linux VM and the target is Linux as well. When I started here I was still infatuated with Visual Studio and used that by mounting the Linux file-system over Samba. Seemed like a good idea at the time... Now I have an IDE inside the VM. Pretty suboptimal and Windows update still elephants me every week. So it is just a matter of time before I gather up some energy to go pure Linux. Good luck with your dark-side-efforts!

MVC is my target. After googling for a while, it appears as if it's still a minefield of bullsh|t to have to go through. I was thinking of abandoning Windows, but it doesn't really seem practical to do so as a developer (translated - I'm lazy and it looks like a lot of work with no guarantees, so f*ck it).
