That's really the problem with SO. While I understand why they do it, more than once I've refrained from asking something because I couldn't quite some up with the exact phrasing that wouldn't be met with the wrath of the SO gods.

And this is a great example of why sometimes being a little bit mean, works out best for everyone.
Instead of just asking another poor question, you stopped to ask yourself: Is this a good question? Have I put enough effort in to solve this myself first?
The whole point in shooting people down on SO is to stop them being so lazy (I am not saying you are lazy BTW). We all love helping people (yes, even on SO), but we don't like helping people who just want the world with no effort on their own part.

Yeah, but from another perspective, that means I've solved the problem on my own and given that they were of no help, I'm much less willing to share my solution with them. I'm sure having my original question posted--as poor as it might have been--and its solution, would've helped others.

Yeah that is a fair point. Providing the question doesn't already exist on SO and you just hadn't searched hard enough for it.

Exactly. It's a great resource for problems that have already been solved and you're looking for the widely accepted answer.
But I find it's very hard to post a new question, unless you already have a ton of "points", which you won't get unless you're already heavily invested in the site.
Pros and cons for sure.

If StackOverflow started allowing tutorials, what would be the use in keeping CP around?
I rarely get Google hits for CP questions when looking for answers, and when I do they are usually not helpful. It's good for the articles, and I guess procrastinating in the lounge...
BTW, I am not trying to start any arguments or a site war, it's just the way I see it.

I always start using the CP search field. That way I don't have to use StackOverflow (or Google) at all... 
And in the rare cases where you don't find what you need, you just go to QA and ask somebody to "Send codez pleeeezzze! It's urgetnz!" And voila! Bob's your uncle!

Even if you don't get any replies. Simply writing the question helped me to get things sorted out : C# Discussion Boards[^] There wasn't even any shitstorm. 
That's about the only complaint I have here. It's really hard to get a decent shitstorm when you need one.

Community! We're the smartest, nicest and most professional people around. Right? RIGHT???* And besides, I personally find the forums, article editor (though I only use it for pasting my content into the editor and minor touch-ups) to be well designed. Well, except for the Q&A forums, which I think are a horrible UX.
And frankly, while I could publish articles on other sites, CP has a professionalism that puts all the others to shame, IMHO.

SO is for getting the one-liner you couldn't quite figure out. CP is for when you're actually interested in learning how things work.
If a developer only ever goes to SO...to me, that speaks volumes about him/her.

Yeah, and that was my point... if SO starts doing those things that people are complaining about like tutorials (which are basically the same as articles) then CP won't have anything unique going for it.
I do agree that the articles are good on CP, but personally they are really the only useful thing for me. The Q&A only very rarely come up in my searches, and even then it's often not a useful answer.
Also, SO has "Documentation" now... it's not quite the same... yet, but it could well be in the long term.
I don't really know what point I am trying to make anymore... I guess just that CP should be thankful that SO has more strict rules on their questions

Someone in my local Freecycle area is giving the below away - if anyone here is interested in it (for the cost of post/shipping) I'll try and grab it for you:Quote: This was my Solaris/Sun Ray lab and was all working prior to storing it in the loft a few years ago. Running Solaris 10.

1xSunRay 170 (17" LCD client). This can also be used just as a second monitor as it has VGA input and output. Note the hinge is cracked so it has lost it's support but as you can see from the pics, works fine resting on the desk.
2xSunRay 2 clients (in original boxes)
1xSunRay 2FS client (not boxed)
1xSun Type 7 keyboard
1xSun Crossbow Mouse
