Still, governments are trying to label a lot of "fake news" as conspiracy-thinking, where more and more conspiracy-theories become conspiracy-facts.

Apple just published a letter to customers apologizing for the “misunderstanding” around older iPhones being slowed down, following its recent admission that it was, in fact, slowing down older phones in order to compensate for degrading batteries. “We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down,” says the company. “We apologize.” We apologize, you pay?

$29 battery? Pfft. GTFO Apple. Hardly any capacity and not suited to high discharge rates - they're worth bugger all.
I can buy one that's 0.95 Ah (Admittedly, about 1/2 the capacity) that can be safely charged in 4 minutes and discharged in less than 1 - for 13 aussie dollars. High discharge and charge rates influence the price more than capacity.
Don't even get me started on the refusal to include a micro-sd card slot. I can buy one and have it shipped to my door from China for US $0.44 - just a postage stamp alone here costs AU $1
Apple. The company that just keeps on sucking.

Count me in. I simply refuse to buy any of their products, and will continue to do so. For a phone, I now have an LG V20, and find it far superior than anything else apple will offer at that price.
But there are people who will pay the 'premium' to buy inferior apple products, so then of course apple will sell it to them.

$29 would buy me a LiPo battery tough enough to start my 1MZFE based car.
Bought a very early 40GB iPod for about $800 a zillion years ago and to my shock and horror, the power supply was so poorly isolated that I could hear noise every s i n g l e time the damned thing did anything with the HDD. Sony walkmans from the 1980s were better. Sony minidisc players from the 90s murdered those horror shows from Crapple. Go to a runway if you want expensive fashion made by slave labour in China.

A few years ago my iPhone 4S started behaving strangely, resetting at random times, and battery indicator didn't seem reliable anymore after 3 years of use. I figured spending €35 on support might help me out. Reinstalled the thing, didn't help ofcourse. I decided that was the last time I made use of Apple support and to just order a new battery and install kit to see what it does, and presto, magically everything was fine again for another 2 years.
Eventually I used my iPhone 4S for 5+ years, and this year I upgraded to the iPhone SE. In 1-2 years, I'll replace the battery and I hope to be using this phone for about 5 years as well. Altogether it's not that expensive (calculating cost/year), but I agree Apple service and ethics are very poor.

As someone who is totally f***ed off with both Google and Apple, and is only interested in a phone for voice, text, email and a street map app, I may well go for a Microsoft phone.

but maybe in a few years, he will want to do something more. That he will adjust his dream to not just be good at one narrow skill called “programming,” but will aspire to have the impact of a 100x engineer.
And therein he skirts but fails to identify the real issue -- motivation. There's a lot of 1X (or maybe they should be called .01X) programmers that completely lack the motivation to "aspire..." To them, it's just a job. Maybe that's OK, maybe not, but it does shift the burden of mediocrity onto those who have to do the testing, code reviews, and bug fixes.
Then there are those that lack the motivation because the corporate culture fails them. It fails to provide training, to provide inspiring work and projects, and to manage a project so that grunt work gets delegated to, if not the afformentioned grunts, then at least to the newbies that need to learn things. Work-life balance, work environment, telecommuting, those are all other factors in the corporate culture. To paraphrase the saying, it takes time and effort to built motivation, and it can be destroyed with a single stupid act.
Like how the TV in the lunchroom was removed because "corporate" didn't want to pay the monthly cable bill. I kid you not. You think I feel motivated to be really be a committed employee with decisions like that?

Or want you to print in black and white because it is cheaper and more ecological, but team leaders drive cars that consume more in one week than my car in half a year.

But that's exactly why they are doing them different and more difficult to differentiate from "normal" elements of the sites in a pathetical try to make you bite the bait.
