I also have no patients.
But then, I'm not a doctor.

Every year I have to pass a test on money laundering and anti terrorist financing, I write apps for the finance department and have never even met a customer in 9 years working for the bank.
About 4 years ago I decided enough was too much and refused to do the test. It eventually got escalated right up to the CEO who called me in prior to sacking me, I ranted on about the granularity of their training regime and have never seen the requirement in the last 4 years.

I accepted a part-time salaried position. A good balance, 3 days a week on-site, 2 days a week at home working on client stuff and my own stuff, which is a LOT more fun.

Wow, that's awesome. How can I get a gig like that?
With a slight variation; I'm going to spend the other two days doing stuff around the house, or possibly just going for a few beers.

Reminds me a little of a great boss I worked for. On the first day we were given a list with few days worth of Intranet courses on it - he pointed out which two we (he) would get in trouble for if we didn't take do (related to building evacuations and tripping over electrical cables), so we didn't waste our time on unnecessary things like learning how to use internal software that we'd never need to use.

A few weeks ago, I installed a game I bought - a Steam game, but I didn't know that until I'd paid for it - and today I thought I'd play it.
Double click the icon.
"Updating Steam".
wait.
wait.
wait.
"Performing one off operations before I run it for the first time".
wait.
wait.
wait.
This is why I hated Steam. I start a game, I want to play it, not sit here like a lemon for ten minutes while Steam sorts it's sh*t out...

Ya'know, I installed Dungeon Crawl (Tiled Version!) on my Raspberry Pi 3.
Quick Install. Quick play. Incredible Variety and Variation. Free.
I've made it to Level Nine, so far, as a Minotaur (Oye, such muscles!)
Forget all the pretense - go retro. Play, get relaxed. That's the point, isn't it?

Seems like it. Theirs' a tiled version of it now - easier on the eyes. Also, allows a few shortcuts with a mouse (like click on a known location to walk to it).
Once upon a time (my first video game) I bought Epyx Rogue. Only one character and much less stuff. It was still rich enough in diverse events that it took me about five years to win. There was a trap in that version which I stepped on. Only occurred once in all that time. I don't even know what it did.
For this one, much of the fun, now, is learning how things work. I'm just getting used to following a god (optional).
This seems to look like my version[^]

I had the same objections to steam, but since I have a new Dell Inspiron gaming notebook without DVD I changed my mind.
I could install Skyrim, my favourite game, without any problems using the online installer by entering the serial number.
Even my save games were restored !

Good broadband helps.
My first (and last for many, many years) Steam game was Half Life. Updating Steam via dial up took so long - and failed so often - I never got to play the game (until I got the XBox version which didn't faff about with Steam at all).

I think this is why Steam insists on having a Windows service running all the time and being allowed to automatically update itself.
A few years ago I had Origin installed (if I recall, this is EA's version of Steam), and even though I wasn't playing all that much anymore, I still fired up the Origin client every time I turned on my gaming machine - not to play any game, but to let it update itself. Invariably, if more than a week had gone by, it would have an update.
