If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

I tried both a Threadripper and i9
kept the i9, my workflow seemed much faster on both (compared to the two year old i7 I was using), but there was a problem with the Threadripper that made it a no go. There is no hardware accelerated emulators for Android on Windows, my workflow lately is SQL server, ASP.NET MVC, Azure App Services and combination of Xamarin and native, and well, it would take 7-9 minutes to boot an Android emulator, and running code on it would usually timeout the rest services.
It seems like Google and Intel have some kind of deal where the Android emulators on Windows only use some Intel processors, on Linux they support both AMD and Intel, but I develop on Windows.

Sorry, I don't work @intel.
In Word you can only store 2 bytes. That is why I use Writer.

cnet sigh, they gave us the "downloader" - download the downloader to download the software, why? well never figured out why (had to dig further to find the direct & website links), they've removed sorting options (no more sorting by user ratings).
Anyway wasn't looking for software, my portable mp3 player (older sony - looks like a small sausage) finally died, so searching for "best portable mp3 player 2017"
what comes up near tge top of the list?
.... "Best MP3 Players for 2018 - CNET"
2018?? they've already decided the best for next year?
FFS, what these useless fading websites do to try and stay relevant is just annoying.
I've already long given up reading cnet reviews, so obviously biased to whoever paid them the most

Yeah, I remember when CNET was a good site...even had it bookmarked once upon a time. Now I avoid it like the plague! (same for drivers sites)

I used to watch TechTV around 20 years ago. Fun times...everything (computer related) was new to me then. My dad had given me a powermac 6100 that I must have rebuilt a dozen times before I bought my first windows machine in '98. I remember being amazed that I could run VS6 at home...no more computer labs!

Because they wannna be a Microsoft wannabe. Surely you've encountered the "Please update the Microsoft downloader to dowload the update" prompt?

If you're serious about looking for a simple MP3 player (only), look at the auction sites for a Zune.
I'm not even kidding. I bought mine when MS finally pulled the plug and local stores were getting rid of them. It's still going strong, despite being dropped many times on hardwood floors and concrete, and I've never even replaced the battery. A few years ago, realizing that nobody makes MP3 players anymore (well, good ones), I started wondering what I was going to do when my Zune was going to die--so I bought two used spares on auction sites. I'm still using the original though. It's easily gotta be well over 10 years old by now.

Yayyy! My old Sony came back to life, I guess it just had to drain the last milliwatt of battery to totally reset - first time it's had a problem. It's only used once or twice a month when I use public transport to a client so I was looking for cheap, but not crap.
5 years old, maybe more, but I see Sony sell a slightly updated version of the same thing, same specs ('massive 4gb') and the buttons moved around a bit, but the new one doesn't come with a clip which is a total downside as I usually wear a t-shirt.
As to using a phone - too annoying when people send a message (or worse still call) in the middle of a good song.
Maybe I'll research the zune @dandy72 mentioned
this sort of useful but dying tech - stock up a couple of spares for the future.
Apparently SanDisk do a cheap mp3 player, but the user reviews [of 'latest'/'updated' models] didn't sound good.
Is technology going backwards, mp3 players, phones (faster but more fragile), Windows 7--> 8 -> 10 definite downgrades

The only drawback with the Zune (if you want to call it that) is that you have to use MS's software to transfer data to it; I wish you could drag and drop files to/from it with Explorer, but so be it.
I mostly use mine to listen to podcasts, and as long as there's an RSS feed to provide to the software, it's really one of those instances where everything "just works".

cnet and pcmag just sell themselves to the highest bidder. The only thing worse are the numerous web sites which show side-by-side "comparisons" (meaning what's scraped from their web sites).

Do Sith know when Santa's in the room because they have felt his presents?
This is the last TotD before Christmas - though I may post next week, I'm not sure yet - so I'd like to say a big "Thank you!" to everyone who has picked up these puns this year and run with them into pun threads. They wouldn't have worked without you!
And a very merry Christmas, Hanukkah, Winter Holiday, Badtis, (or whatever floats your boat) and happy New Year to you all. For those that only view us at work: see you in the New year!
