I never had a cable fail in that fashion, but had to deal with a broken parking break release handle after the cord snapped for a few months in one of the early 80's beaters I drove as a teen. When my mental auto-pilot stomped the parking brake anyway - something that I managed to do at least once a week - it took several minutes of groping around under the dash to find the release and lever it free with a screw driver. (Something my Dad refused to show me how to do until after I managed to get the brake set away from home, and wasn't able to call him for help because the person on the front desk where he worked had already left for the day. D'Oh! | D'Oh! | D'Oh! | )
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
--Zachris Topelius

Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. You like that? You go right on staring at it. I prefer looking at galaxies.

Straw Poll

Were you affected by the geomagnetic storms this past weekend?
Communication disruptions, electrified pipes, random unexplained blue-screens in Windows - the list of effects is terrifying.
