Recording stuff is not the problem. Always having to spool to the right position before you can continue is a little disruptive.

Carefully. Isn't that what the "C" in VCR stands for?

I just love that kind of article, like this one in the news section today.
In 1980 I read the cover article from this magazine[^] about the new 16 bit processors (Like the MC68k and Intel 8086 ). They wrote that these processors are awesome and will help us solve the last mysteries of the universe, but will be far too expensive and powerful for normal users. Around 1988 I read a similar article about the new 80486, singing very much the same song.
So what will quantum processors bring? Of course they will solve the last mysteries of the universe. They are awesome, but far too powerful and expensive for normal users.
And a few years later we will be posting cat pictures faster, in more colors and higher resolutions than ever before with them.

I don't know - but I suspect Pr0n will probably be involved.

Why not? The last mysteries of the universe may be important, but it's just as important that the same tech can be used to bring a little fun and entertainment into some people's life, no matter if it's by sharing cat pictures or playing some games. Even Pr0n, as long as there is no abuse or criminal activity involved.

Indeed - historically, just about every technical advance is very quickly turned to the subject!

Edit: Much simpler: Decorated oil lamps that probably were used to get into the right mood.

No, because the cat disappears if you see it.

Yes, all possible combinations of moves all at once in quantum states.

Well, more specifically it will answer this question with one word:
"Can a perfectly played game be won?"
The chess world is in agreement that draw is highly probable outcome of a perfect game, but it has not been proven.

The person who loses wouldn't be thinking of it as being so "perfect"...so as long as it's a game involving more than one player, the answer would be "no"...?

We will be able to connect all the CodeWraiths in all the infinite parallel universes so they can share conundrums like: "What problems will we solve with a quantum computer?."

But we could never collect them all. According to the Uncertainty Principle, any observation of CodeWraiths affects the observed CodeWraiths. In some of the infinite cases, this will be enough to destroy the observed CodeWraith.
Oh well, shift happens.

Even at quantum computer speeds, we will be creating problems faster than we can solve them.
