Completely agree. Also ethics isn't really something you can "teach" in my opinion. I took a computer ethics course in college and the big takeaway I learned from that class is that ethics is complex. To say it's a "case by case" basis is an understatement as the smallest detail can completely change your ethical perspective of a situation.

I would say the opposite. Ethics are standards loosely defined by societal or industrial constraints usually interpreted and manipulated by your personal morality. Morals are standards defined by your personal experiences whether they be societal, religious, or other.
Ethics are ever-evolving because they are external in nature. Morals for most people are set in stone because they're personal in nature.
They intertwine but it's very possible for two people to have separate moral values and the same ethical values as well as separate ethical values and the same moral values. The lack of logical implication implies that they are separate entities regardless of whether they affect one another. My 2 cents.

Ah, I see now what you meant. I misinterpreted where you were going with each term. It's true that our definitions are in the same general ballpark, except your definitions are simplified enough to allow you to state that they are not separate concepts. Leaving out details such as personal vs external and including assumptions such as ethics being moral principles clouds the fact that they are completely separate concepts. My last section touched on that. To restate a different way, ethics do not require or imply morals and morals do not require or imply ethics.
Here's an example: You're a doctor. Your patient is in a vegetative state and has permanently lost higher cognitive functions. You have the ability to keep their body alive for possibly years. You know if you tell the family that fact they will want to keep the body alive. What do you do? Let's say that the family keeping them alive will cost someone else who can make a full recovery their life. What do you do now?
For me, this is a great example of ethics and morals clashing. Ethically, you have a sworn duty to tell the family all available treatments. Morally, I find it repugnant keeping an empty body alive putting strain on the hospital, healthcare system, and taking up an ER bed that could be used for another patient that has a chance at real life. Not to mention it feels disrespectful to the mentally deceased. Ethics are telling me to do one thing while morals another.
In many situations it's true that morals and ethics are nearly synonymous but the devil's in the details. In careers such as police, medical, and military, there are often situations that show just how different and hard-to-combine they can be.

Seems logical or at least possible. Someone without morals may still choose to follow rules which could be called ethics.

I see, I think, what you mean. You're basically stating that violating an ethical rule may not be immoral given the situation (i.e., the doctor potentially lying to the family of a brain dead patient to save life-giving resources for those who really need it). That sounds like situational ethics or situational morals or at least moral priority ordering. I'm a little more black and white than that. Although, in the given example, I'd be real tempted to lie... tough decision.

The difference is simple - morals define an individual's own view of what is right and wrong.
Ethics are external - for example medical ethics decide whether an experiment is ethical - and are achieved by consensus.

Coders are into geeky tech, not the fact that it can blow up the world, tell hostile aliens where we live, or (closer to home) provide all sorts of information to AI "expert" systems that determine the cost of your health and property insurance based on your life style, credit rating, income, address, age, gender, and for all I know, ethnicity.

Sounds like this "expert" is feeling a little morally superior and I question the morality of that.
I also fail to see how being modest about your skills has anything to do with being ethical.

Morals and ethics that matter are taught from childhood by parents and later close peers. How you act shows how embedded those values are.
