Do it. I've read both. Very different books, but both fun.

I can strongly recommend all his books. I started with Redshirts, then the Old Man's War series.
They are not without things to be picky about, but the characters are just nice to spend time with. And, in common with Starship Troopers, you rapidly work out that maybe you're not on the "good" side...
I am one of "those foreigners coming over here and stealing our jobs". Yay me!

Well, the 50' of cable going from the pole across the street to the house...
...was missing!!!
Apparently some over-height truck must have come by and ripped the whole cable off, taking it with them. There certainly wasn't any cable lying around anywhere on the street!
Either that, or very large rodents with a hankering for plastic and copper.

In South Africa theft of copper cables is big business. No cables are exempt: Not high voltage transmission cables nor low voltage telephone cables. High voltage cables have a nasty habit to bite back when they attempt to harvest them: A few perpetrators were fried doing it. A friend of mine who lives in a rural community in the Cape Province regularly loses his Internet service for weeks on end, due to theft of telephone cables serving his community.
