How many people here have heard of Link Grammar[^] (before this post, of course).
I am working on a C# wrapper for it for a document editor program I am building with DevExpress controls, and it is taking quite a while, as the API is absolutely massive (and I am writing all the P/Invoke stuff by hand).
If anyone is interested, I can put it up on Github as its own repository.

Once you get familiar with DevExpress' way of doing things (particularly how certain properties are exposed deep inside a hierarchy) it gets easier. I've found that most of my common questions have already been answered on their online help system (though it can take a bit of google-fu to find the right answer) and their help is pretty responsive to new questions (though they tend to link you to some already answered but not quite the same question answer.)
At the end of the day, I tend to wrap their controls in my own classes that expose the behaviors that I want in a more sane way, which really helps get a new project up and going once I've got the common functionality under control (pun intended.)
As to Link Grammar - wow, a huge home page, but how the heck do you do something practical with it? I'd love to see an article on that!

I'm talking about the Link Grammar API being super massive. I have about 300 lines of code written for the P/Invoke, and I am not even a third of the way down the first of three header files for that library.

At my current position (which will last until end of May this year, but that's not the point) I'm not only responsible for the development and deployment of the election analytics and reporting software, but also for the user documentation (we're a small company). What I'm currently looking for is a piece of software which is Editor, Built-in help and Wiki in one single solution. What I want to do is:
- Write documentation parts, completely with screenshots (preferably I'm able to create them from within the editor). I also want to edit the screenshots directly from within the editor - Add highlighting, arrows and so on.
- Reference documentation parts from within the application (something like a built-in help).
- Group multiple documentation parts into a document which then can be handed out to our customers and users as PDF
- Versioning for anything I write in the editor.
I'd prefer to go with an open source solution which could be tweaked to fit our needs.
Why do I look out for that? Well, I'm tired of copy-pasting pictures into word documents.
Edit: For those interested, I'll start a new gig with an insurance ERP supplier by June. The company has major insurances in Switzerland as its customers, plus some in germany and the BeNeLux area. For the start I will stick with the life insurance team.

I agree that a Wiki is the correct 'track' - that means the documentation can 'grow' / 'live' rather than end up dead - hopefully find a BA or tech savvy business user and train them up on <whatever product="">

Im guessing you've done a Google and seen this GitHub - roadkillwiki/roadkill: A modern .NET Wiki - I havnt found a 'perfect' solution out there - I used to use 'Twiki', Ive used Confluence, Sharepoint as well, Sharepoint being the 'least nice' experience

I'm in Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. Pick a day and I will try to stick to a time we pick. Some times hard to do depending on what the staff in Brisbane plan on the fly and then want me to cover for them.

thanks for your thoughts. We're currently using Confluence for our internal documentation. As stated in my post, not finding a wiki software is crucial, but making it easy to write and update documentation "on the go". I'll have a look at Chris' approach, could prove interesting even though any web solution has the downside of installing a Web server locally - Our systems are mainly used to count election data from scanners, and are often cut off from the web.

everybody knows the world isn't round, it's generally (but not perfectly) spherical.
Nor is it flat, - it's lumpy, pocked and puddled (otherwise there would be no such thing as hills or mountains (which would make riding my bike a lot easier), divers would be unemployed and spelunkers would be strange folk with a silly job title.

It is basically spheroidal. Fundamentals of Mapping[^] Quote: The closest basic mathematical figure that approximates the shape of the Earth is the Ellipsoid ⁄ Spheroid.
The earth spheroid is not perfect (of course). This is partly because the earth's composition is not uniform. If it were spherical or flat it would not be geometrically perfect either (if it were flat would there be gravity?). It is a geoid which is very closely approximated by a number of spheroids which are locality specific. Now which spheroid is it? That's where the error arises.

My point is that the geoid, a gravitational concept (think "sea level") is a useful refinement on the ellipsoid, particularly when it comes to relating GPS (ellipsoidal) altitude to "reality". (Seeing an altitude reading of 25 metres on the beach is a bit disconcerting to some!) Many GPS devices/apps these days have big N tables built in to make the correction.
(Sorry, I'm a geodesy nerd.) There's a good discussion here[^], particularly chapters 8 and 9.
