In the morning I sat down to take a look at my old code. Now it's almost 4 am again, but I did it.
A solution with 42 projects, among them my 3D engine, the UI running in the 3D engine, four webservices, an ASP .Net website, a WPF administration client and finally the unfinished game itself. XNA already was based on DirectX 8, which already was somewhat old when Mickeysoft decided to pull the plug and try something else. Without an alternative that would not require a total rewrite, the whole code would have been a dead end. Then MonoGame came along, which started where XNA left off.
Last week I ported my old test application that I used to try out my 3D engine and the UI without having to care about the huge solution. From the code side it was easy. MonoGame is almost 100% compatible to XNA. The graphics resources and especially shaders needed some work, but that also was a step ahead because it was not an incompatibility, but an upgrade over two versions of the shader programming model. It took me the entire day and most of the night, but now the whole project has a future again.
Here is a screenshot[^. What do you think of the background? I painted it in Paint.Net. It's not some picture I stole from the web and seamless in all directions.

As someone already mentioned, it would be nice to have an article describing the difficulties and "gotchas" you had doing the conversion.
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

Why is there an Indian and Chinese forum under "Non-English" but nothing for everyone else? The Chinese one is deserted and the Indian one is mostly English anyway - though most of the content is incomprehensible to me

I see, just seemed strange that's all. Although these are the most populous nations, the number of internet users is surely greater in European countries.
The Chinese one's probably blocked over there I presume, or everyone uses the local forums. Maybe a Japanese forum would attract more visitors. Or maybe not, they're sure to have plenty of their own places they haunt already.
Maybe one catch-all international forum? The Babel forum? Of course that would be a nightmare to moderate.

At one stage we had a bunch if chinese trying to get support in their language.
As for the indian one, unless you love cricket don't bother, that one is cultural rather than language. I think it was requested just to get the cricket out of the Lounge, 5 page threads discussing the attributes of player was not interesting to any but those participating.

It's mainly politics now. You'll be hard pressed to find any cricket. The 5 page threads you mention were never in the lounge I don't think. The creation of Git coincided with the cricket World Cup so there was a lot of cricket in there to start with.

Yeah partly my fault, my current domestic situation means I haven't watched much cricket and wasn't really following it. I think the first test I only checked the result when the second test started.
You should have roasted me and tagged me in a post to get the discussion started.

The Indian forum was requested because we had many new Indian users who joined and weren't aware of the etiquette of the lounge. Unfortunately they tended to get a lot of abuse. Having a separate forum helped introduce them to the expected behaviour of the site without them being attacked. This is a good thing.
