Really? I'm not sure why you think that. If that were the case then CP would only allow the poster to vote on an answer. For me, it is helpful when I come across an answer to see that it has a bunch of upvotes, or vice versa. It's a quick check to see how viable the answer is.

At the same time, there's no reason we can't inject a considerable amount of sarcasm into the resulting answers.
And as Sean already stated, he was down-voting without regard for whether or not I was providing an actual answer, or just being a smart ass.

I will never forget the story you told about your yard sale (at least I think it was) and the guy who thought you (and your missus) were crazy. I think the story was the cop who attended was asking about your firearms and you said you practice gun control. When he asked what that meant, precisely, you said "I don't miss".

I think my all-time favorite thread was when that guy insulted himself to save me the time/trouble. If I remember, it had something to do with a Quran article. Copious hilarity ensued... Sadly, the article appears to have been deleted, and with it, the message section.
Update on browser issues - the problem described above happens in IE11 and FireFox, but Chrome works.

The code pasted in Unable to understand the behaviour of fgets[^] and other questions, seems to send the formatter into a drug induced frenzy. A number of ="" strings added where (I assume) there should be newlines. It never seems to happen with code that I post, so I wonder if it is some odd UTF character that is the culprit?

Near the end there is an unencoded <, causing the parser to think that the code is HTML and converting all following things to attributes.
Simple as that.

The formatter here can be very weird sometimes. I have seen this happen many times recently. It's caused by the new HTML sanitizer Chris is using.

When formatting a piece of code with <pre>, if the selection starts with spaces or taks, they are skipped and <pre> start after the spaces.
It is a bad behavior because it is common to paste indented pieces of code and skipping leading spaces and tabs is breaking the indentation.

I think my correction was completing the first tag inside the first <pre> but I forgot to encode.

Just tried.
Now it removes the first line leading spaces and tabs.
Previously, they were moved out of the <pre> block.

What the system is meant to do is outdent indented code evenly. So if every line is indented 4 spaces, it removes 4 spaces from every line. This fixes the issue where people paste deeply indented sections of code and all you see is loads of whitespace on the left and text on the right cut off.
eg. Each line here is entered originally with 4 leading spaces. Displayed, it's flushed left.

I think today's behavior is wrong and previous (a few months ago) was right.
In short, prior behavior was: apply <PRE> block around selection, no change in selection.
The problem is that today, when applying <PRE> the leading spaces, tabs and new lines are removed until the first symbol.
