You can always create a property on the select to store the previous value and update it in your onchange handler. EX:

Not sure about Netscape. We stopped developing for Netscape about 4 years ago. It is a HORRIBLE platform to develop real, functional business apps for.

I have code where I position a dot on a map. I use a lot of style="position:absolute; left: numberpx; top: numberpx" code, but problem is it doesn't work in Netscape.

Where can I found comparisons of the two browsers especially for this type of problem

What version of Netscape?

SSL Certs on web farms

We are going to be moving from one live web server, to 3 forming a web farm in the next month or so. We'll be using SQL and cookies to track sessions, and so far the examples I've looked at look great. However, one thing I'm not too sure of it the Verisign certificates. Obviously I have contacted them for more info, and it's looking very interesting, but I was wondering if anyone has experience of this, and if so, what advice (do's / don'ts Smile | :)

I would, if you can ! get your own certificate server (Netscape).

You can request your certs from the MMC within IIS (if you are using IIS) and go to town

The cipher strength can be whatever 40bit, 128bit etc.

This will insure the protection of the packets being routed and the whole nine yards.

My employer considred VeriSign but decided it was too much of a hassle, not to mention the overhead.

Do you know of a good on-line tutorial on this subject. I have been planning on a SSL gatway on my web server but it is all new to me, have not done anything with SSL/HTTPS before.

I was just wondering - have you set one of your machines up to be a certificate server then? I know this is possible using Win 2000, but then who is backing you up as it were, to prove you are who you say you are?

Hi Tony,

When you have a certificate from Verisign you aren't only using SSL, but there's the added benefit with people being able to see that a reputable organisation like Verisign say you are who you say you are. We don't want to lose this as we have brokers trading through our site.

If we issue our own certificates, who is backing us up? We could be rogues, pretending to be Virtual Net (Europe) plc, stealing the money. I was wondering if you've found a way of getting around this.

I see what you mean!! That is a good reason to have an org like Verisign !!!

Liability would be a strong contender in your setup.

Our setup has a differernt purpose. I do know that it would take a hacker many moons to Decrypt a 128bit encryption algorithm, but when you deal with peoples finances it's one that requires vigilance--ongoing.

I don't have a workaround, however, I was thinking that if you use your own SSL certs they are less likley to be exposed to any other third party. Not to say that Verisign would be vulnerable to compromise, but hence the saying "too many cooks in the kitchen" anythings possible.

Your post has prompted me to look further into this by all means. If I find something out I will pass it on.

Lets say I have to frames in a frame page. In panel (A) I have links:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

All of which target panel (B). In panel (B) I have some text and link to "Link 2". A user then clicks in panel (B) on "Link 2" which replaces Panel (B) with the contents of "Link 2". How about I go about refreshing Panel (A) so that the link shows as someone has already visited it without refreshing the entire panel?
That is the Visitied link color does not automatically show until the page is refreshed. Is there something that can refresh the page without fetching the page again so that the link changes color?

Oh yeah, and lets say that in Panel (B) I do not know if the link exists on Panel (A) so I can not adjust he color of the link manually.

I want to show a very wide image on a page but not have it cause a horizontal scrollbar to appear.

I found the overflow-x attribute[^] but it only works on IE6. Is there a portable way of doing this (without using frames Smile | :)

What I need is to reload the page with parameters depending on users selection.

First from application main window i open new dialog (using javascript):

showModalDialog(DIALOG_NAME, DlgParameters, DlgAtributes);

(dialog name, parameters and atributes are predefined or generated variables).

Till here everything works fine, but when I try to reload the page it automaticaly opens new browser window.

The only way to reload, navigate or do form posts in a modal dialog is to create a dialog that serves as a "host container" for the actual page, which resides in an iframe. In the following example, just replace the iframe src tag with your page url:
