I swapped from incandescent to halogen spots in the kitchen about 12 years ago, then swapped to LED spots about a year later. They weren't cheap - about 5 times the cost - but an order of magnitude less power. And LEDs have an MTBF of AS 20,000 hours. Given that they don't all fail at once, the degradation isn't that noticeable, so some of the originals are still in use now, with one or two LEDs out of 32 or so failed.
And the latest ones give a better brightness as well as better color, plus when they fail (on one or two the PSU part gave the ghost) they don't takes out the fuse box at the same time, which halogens did all the time.

Big, big plus: they are cool to touch instead of giving third degree burns...
