Yeah, I still prefer IE and occasionally on startup get directed to a page telling me that 'you really should be using Edge'. My three main reasons for not using it:
0: I can't control file extensions when downloading using Edge. (.bacpac files automatically get saved as .zip and changing them back manually just corrupts the file.  )
1: SSRS Report Manager flat out refuses to connect using Edge.
2: I don't like being told I should do something to improve the stats, especially when the new version offers no real benefit to me...kind of like the new Azure portal...I rather like the old one just fine even if you force me to go through an extra step to get there! Sorry, a little off-topic!

Only in Europe, and everyone at the time slammed the Europeans for it, calling them all the names under the sun for wanting to protect their citizens against the slimy, money-grubbing actions of greedy, foreign corporations.

Well foreign depends upon where you live, no?
So - taking the context from your post (q.v.)[^]
And money grubbing horrendous practices are basically a defect in capitalism (in its search for profits) and socialism (in it's take-it-or-leave-it quality model). Not that either has to behave that way - they just always do.
The us-and-them reminds of a currently active political candidate's strategy - but rallying Europe against the US is always popular for European politicians. Works here, too.
Consider Takata airbags[^]. A model for which all industry can strive!

I'm not rallying anyone; I am simply being accurate with my words and providing a highly pertinent point -- that I have little recourse to law over the actions of FOREIGN corporations.

Hell, here in the US we have the same problem with DOMESTIC corporations. And there's the problem of our domestic corporations "moving headquarters" to foreign countries to cheat the citizens out of taxes owed, but I digress.

Money grubbing is business and economics at its finest. Given a small supply or high demand, the company can up its price to make more money. The main focus of business is to increase the stockholder's capital in the company. Look at the drug company selling Epipens. It is ugly, the company is making huge profits, but the customers need the medication. And, the company's product is protected by patents. Yes it does make me sick to see such blatant greed and disregard for your fellow human being.
Capitalism does work best in a mutually cooperative environment rather than a spy-vs-spy world. Maybe we can add restrictions to patents to where the holder cannot sell for more than 5% of some set value.

Every now and again I wind up Edge and that reminds why I dislike it so much compared to IE or Chrome.

Edge is still missing one essential option (Chrome is also missing it by the way!): Option to automatically switch to a new tab when I right-click --> Open in new tab.
Both IE and Firefox have that option, not Edge, not Chrome.
I hate it when I see a new tab open and not being brought to it automatically... why the hell did I open it if I didn't want to go there?

Try holding Ctrl+Shift when you click a link. Only workaround I know of.

I developed a bespoke HTML editor for use in our intranet as the editor for articles, etc. it works completely with IE9+, Chrome, Opera, Safari, Vivaldi and even Firefox. I have just been told that I might now have to make it work with Edge as we are having to now support Windows 10 as we get new PCs in. My solution is to make sure Chrome is installed as standard and default on our new PC images! 
- I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.
