Fortunately his buddy at the sawmill was available.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

With only one "Yes" vote - and that a bit dubious - It's a resounding "no".
The CCC OTD will resume on Tuesday.
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

Is that like politics where a failure to vote indicates a lack of caring?

Yep.

I hope this means I can have a bank holiday on Monday too!
Oh wait, the boss is away Monday, how's there's an idea...

I was just working on some code with self referencing entities and I got my while loop all wrong.
Apparently, creating a few infinite loops in JavaScript and running them in Chrome crashes my external network device leaving me without an internet connection until I reconnect the device

I do embedded code here. The same mistake would have killed a few tester.

I remembering forcing that back in college on a VAX/VMS system...create an program with a counter, start a 'for' loop, jump out of it, display the counter.. and repeat.
How long would it take to pop the stack?
|
|
|
|
|
VAX? For an experiment, I (and the security officer) ran the following three batch files (content displayed). The VMS system limited internal loops to 25 redundant iterations.
A.COM SUBMIT B
B.COM SUBMIT C
C.COM SUBMIT A
It was done after hours on Friday - right before the normal shutdown of the system.

Yes, VAX/VMS... circa early '80s... long before OpenVMS.

How long is an infinite loop?
... such stuff as dreams are made on
|
|
|
|

Twice as long as half an infinite loop?

Since infinity x 2 is still infinity, then by extension half of infinity is also still infinity.
|
|
|
|
|
And extending that:
½ × ∞ × 2 ≡ ∞

Longer than it needs to be.

One less than ++(infiniteloop).
This space for rent

Well, that's a piece of p***.
In C, it's 10 characters.
while(1){}
As for the question I presume you seek the answer to, how long will it run? Meh, someone else can take that.

I call your for(;;); with a jmp main+1Eh

But it's what for(;;); complies to in ASM with Visual C++. I know potato, potato.

Oh, of course. Hmm, given the ASM answer, I think it's time to pull out the Donald card and go for machine language. (2 bytes - EB FE)
00401000 - EB FE - JMP SHORT 00401000
From the days I used 16bit TASM regularly, I think you could write this as jmp $-2 or perhaps it was jmp @-2 . I forget. I may be confusing TASM with MASM with NASM here.
Oh how the luxury of high-level languages spoils us.
Writing a huffman compressor/decompressor in asm to decompress the kernel is some er, 'fun'.
