Two or three years ago, Stack Overflow was highly active and would frequently astound me.
My recent experience was a total zero. Not only did I not get a useful answer, I don't think I got a single response.
I just checked; two weeks, 27 views (twenty seven, not a typo).
Another question received 6 views in a week.
Somebody check my math: That's about 1.5 viewers per question per day.

Have to agree that is pretty lame. I do not know how many times I have tried to vote and have been told I need 15 points. Does not tell me how many points I have or how to actually get points. Have not tried to answer any questions, but if you need points to answer I can understand why it is useless.

No, anyone can post an answer (unless they've earned themselves a ban anyway). Voting is gated behind having a small amount of reputation as an anti-vandalism control.

I have no idea how long I have been using SO, many years at least, I have never asked a question there, I think I may have answered or at least attempted to answer a few questions.
However I find it an awesome source and is the main reason I have not had to ask questions here! As a community I think it is a non starter but as a knowledge source it is excellent.

I gave it five tags, all relevant.
I will assume that the 27 people who viewed the question were experts in the "C" and "C++" subject, with no knowledge of NetBeans.
I am now starting to question my decision to use NetBeans. The screen shots from its website present a very nice looking user interface for an IDE. I'll invest eight more hours in trying to gain minimal competency before I abandon it.
If there is no workable support community, then I have defacto zero hope of learning how to use something as complicated as that package.
Yes, I have joined the NetBeans Community[^] and have also asked similar (possibly the same) questions on their NetBeans Forums[^]. So far, no response there either.
It appears that the NetBeans community is about 40,000 (forty thousand) in number, and evidently they are quite busy with their lives; which is what I would like to become.
At the moment, I have found no one on the NetBeans forums, nor here on CodeProject, nor over on Stack Overflow, who had the answers about how to configure the compiler and the make facility to fit into the IDE.
Perhaps CygWin is complicating my experience.

Isn't NetBeans a Java thingy? And yet you're asking about C/C++? I guess it must be some interop situation. Yeah, maybe not a lot of experts in that and those who are are probably busy...

It's primarily known as a Java IDE, but it has pretty good C++ support as well.
Using NetBeans for C++ is relatively uncommon, though, and it's likely even less common among SO's members. That probably explains the lack of an answer.

I usually don't ask: I search and research. The whole reason CP has been allowed in my workplace is that MSDN often directs here or on SO.
In almost 5 years of professional developement very rarely I have found answers on SO and most of them are in ages old topics - coincidentally even on MSDN the real juice is on old pages, rarely linked or accessible anymore.
The most common answer on SO is: "what you're trying to do is wrong"... well maybe not my dear smartaxe, either you know how to solve or shut the flock up! Here at least there are articles.

I almost never ask a question on SO, I think I've maybe asked 3 questions ever.
Conversely, I find it immensely helpful to find answers, but almost all of my searches are related to HTML, CSS, Javascript, Python, and *nix questions. I'll occasionally search for a Linq question that lands me on SO, where there's usually several decent options suggested. I've often found posts where people post links to really cool things, FluentMigrator[^] comes to mind, I discovered that through a post someone made on SO.

I noticed in another post that you mentioned your question was about using Netbeans with C++. From what I've seen, Netbeans is a pretty uncommon choice for C++ devs, and the vast majority of Netbeans users are using it for Java development.
So depending on its tags, your question is likely being seen by two groups: experienced C++ developers who don't know anything about Netbeans, and experienced Netbeans users who don't have any experience using it with C++.
Many (thought not all) posts on the Netbeans C++ forum seem to get helpful replies. You might have more success asking there than on SO. I find SO's effectiveness usually drops off dramatically if your question involves languages, tools, or ) in your case) language/tool combinations that are at all outside the mainstream.

Since I sort of left the coding/computer industry for a period of about 14 years (and when I was in it before, I was a teenager), I don't remember so many of these "fad things" going on. I assume now more than back then, there has been a large increase in the number of users who regularly use computer programs thanks to the smartphone and tablets.
But I'm noticing these rather annoying fads and trends, which make me as a new, ADULT coder now, cringe.
Hard to explain, and I think this is more of a designer/marketing thing than anything else... But we all probably know what a startup website looks like. They all follow the same pattern of having a big huge flashy landing page with a call to action, and then it sorta goes downhill from there... That is, if it ever started at the top of the hill to begin with. This "style" of site can be seen hereOur Work - Mopro[^] . This is only one company's examples, but they illustrate the general idea of what type of site Im talking about if you aren't familiar.
The other thing I see a lot of are these trying-to-be-clean-and-simple-but-use-buzzwords types of approaches... I keep seeing startups like insert-your-verb-here+ify and videos like MongoDB's intro videoWhat is MongoDB? | MongoDB - YouTube[^] which quite frankly, are beginning to turn even me, as a 27 year old, off.
Why do these people think they need to talk like this? Do they think we're idiots? Why is everyone trying to be "simple?" Why is thought being discouraged so much and there is this huge emphasis on "just using something" rather than understanding it? Don't get me wrong, I understand not everyone is a techie, but the thing that separates us humans from animals is indeed the mind, so if anything, we should be exercising it, not reducing it. Is it because the younger generations are lazy or conditioned to dislike education? I can't stand this ideology.
Has anyone else noticed this trend or have any viewpoints on this? To be honest, I feel like Apple started this sh*t as a marketing scheme (smart) to sell their products to the dumbasses around the world (harsh, I know... Dont take it too seriously :P) and now everyone's trying to copy them and jump on this "sleek, simple, it just works" bandwagon... And they think they're being original and cool by doing it. Yeah, we'll see.

Many web sites including the provided example are generated by various content management systems with predefined templates. That is why they look similar.
