Charlie don't surf, but our old cat did. On a small rug, down the corridor towards the front door. Alternatively she started a sprint upstairs on the same rug, usually just pushing back the rug and running on the spot the first few steps.

We had a little black bastard who, in summer, would jump up on the pot belly stove, usually from about 2 metres away. Poor little sod did the same thing in winter when the fire was on.
Have you aver seen a cat try and change directions in mid leap, there was a scritch as he landed on his claw tips and bounced, still had very saw paws for a few day.

We had a problem with Bill The Cat - he walked all over kitchen worktops, which I hate; it's unhygienic. But unless we could catch him, you can't stop him and all we had were his paw prints.
Until one day when I'm frying some meat: I've got a hot pan with oil, and I'm chopping the meat up when I catch out of the corner of my eye Bill jumping onto the cooker - and heading for the frying pan. Somehow (and I know not how, I must have started moving before my brain noticed what was happening and caught up) I managed to smack him in the tummy and throw him across the kitchen. One and only time I ever hit him more than a "finger bop" on the nose but there was nothing else I could do to prevent serious injuries.
He was fine - he creeped to me for an hour or so until he was sure I wasn't cross with him - but I felt terrible.
And he never went on the sides again.

I understand you, but you probably saved its life and a lot of torture. I had a cat who jumped with all fours on the wood stove. In full Winter. 3 weeks bandagind his paws and feeding him because he couldn't walk. He got 100% ok luckily.

Actually, I'm rather egotistic about my articles. I pretty much know when I've written something that will at least be in the competition. Now granted, I never actually write an article for the sake of being in the competition, but I do pretty much know when one has a good chance of making it.
And then I watch it.
