lol, an update is a valid suggestion, just no idea which one.
I found other people griping from years back (posts older than 5+ years), so I don't think I was nailed by an update. Guess I'll live with it for now then when I get some time move it over to VMware.

Finally cyphered this out. Somehow, the normal login "xpmuser" got remembered as "xpm-user". The second one does not exist. The solution was to go the VM settings and clear the remembered credentials and boot it.
At this point, you'll be prompted again for an account - enter the correct one plus password and have the "remember" box checked. Apparently, the XP vm checks credentials all the time, and once they got mismatched, confusion ensued.

The interesting part may to figure out how that got changed.
Like possibly a hidden user was added /deleted.
I've probably spent too much time with reversing, malware I suspect everything anymore.

I agree. I only use this VM behind multiple firewalls and the like, and only for development (never email, web, etc). So, I don't think it is malware. I suspect that what happened is that I made a typo and one thing led to another. It remembered a bad user name, and we went downhill from there.

Xamarin for Windows allows iOS applications to be written and tested within Visual Studio, with a networked Mac providing the build and deployment service.
Me: Meh. Honestly, if i had a Mac I'd probably just learn Native iOS dev.

Well.. it's not their fault really, just Apple make it mandatory to build that way...
But it does work.. sharing 1 mac for multiple developers here!! 
However, this is how it feels[^] to build for iOS!

The advantage on Xamarin is that you can target multiple platform. But there is always some disadvantage...

Do not blame Xamarin - it is all about Apple... With Apple you have to pay to develop applications for iOS...

I'm using the keyboard very intensively while I'm working. First of all - I'm old and used to it. It also quicker than switching hands between keyboard and mouse and back again...
Now Chrome decided to switch from [Backspace] to [ALT]+[Left Arrow] and I already broke the [Backspace] on my keyboard...
Until now it was "The big brother is watching you", now it is "The big brother is deciding for you"...
Had I told something about the evil deeds today already?

Backspace still works for me ...
Alt + left arrow also works so I might not have the latest greatest where they removed backspace?

Edit: yep it's gone
Version 52.0.2743.116 m now and no more backspace, some stupid popup thingy comes to tell me to use alt + left arrow

For years Chrome was way better than FF. Now FF did a great comeback and it is not more true, but I got to used to Chrome...No more...

I can't count the number of times I've tried to delete text somewhere on a form, and some genius decided to put real-time validation javascript on the page, buggered it up, and the text-box loses focus in favor of some control that doesn't accept backspace. Backspace gets bubbled up to the browser and boom, work lost.
Of course, removing it and remapping the shortcut to something else is not the way to fix the issue. It should been added as a configuration option, allowing any key or key combination to be bound to the shortcut, making everyone happy. Software that mandates the use of specific keys for specific actions with no option to change it are the worst kinds of software...
