Yes it was! Didn't you read the text?

So we are sitting - all 4 of us - on a pile of super important projects to carry out at the highest level... Now the CEO walks into that pile and announces, that cutting short one of those project (one of the two biggest) with two months is a good idea, as it will start our relations with the customer on the right foot... Now we have 84 minutes work for every hour...
The most funny part, that the customer is the government... The project started 15 months ago and we still run the (2nd) pilot on VMs as they didn't bought the computers in the specification...
F...k that idiotic two months!!!

Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?

No - I can not install developer tools on the site, can not even connect it from the outside and more security things...

Wow, sounds like the big boss is pushing too hard to get the project done early.

Sounds like it's time to update the resumé.

Or maybe not.
Let me guess, this is the kind of guy who will not listen to a question like: "Sure we can cut two months, which other project should we delay by months?"

Just get it done. You know you can.
But after it's done, if you don't get the appreciation you deserve: find another job, and leave.

I very much doubt that your contract doesn't have a notice period. You don't have to walk out on the spot -- find another job, first.

Most (okay, all) of you are better versed in the mysteries of MS Marketing than I, so I pose a question to the group. We have until July 29th to take advantage of the free Win10 upgrade offer, then we have to pay retail, as I understand it. But suppose I burn an .iso of the installation today, and don't get around to installing it on an existing Win7 machine until October. Will it work without buying a new product key?
Inquiring minds want to know. Besides, I don't want to "upgrade" until I get a full backup to run, and neither Backup, nor Acronis True Image will run reliably on this machine. I want to resolve that issue before doing the changeover.
Any definitive opinions on this licensing issue?

That's why I keep asking questions before I do anything. I've been doing programming and hardware design since 1975, sometimes as a paid job, sometimes as a hobby, but I'll never know everything. And I learned early on not to assume anything!!!

From what I understand, no.
It's not the ISO that is registered with MS, but your precise PC configuration (IIRC it's the PC / motherboard serial numbers that they use) - and once that PC has been upgraded it's allowed to reinstall without a key for it's life. You are at liberty to reverse the Win 10 ungrade and go back to Win7, but you can install Win10 at any point from then.
So no - burning an ISO won't help you.
Do a good backup - as most people here know (because I keep on banging on about it) I use AOMEI Backupper and it works brilliantly for me. If you can't get backups to run reliably, then I'd seriously look at the PC - good backups are the most important part of any computer! But...you can just take the HDD out, add it to another machine as a second drive, and image it via backup software from there. Restore is the reversal of that process.

Others have already answered the question, but I thought I'd recommend this:
0: Find an empty HDD. (I highly recommend SSD if you can) Yank your current OS drive and replace it with this one.
1: Install Win7 fresh using your current license and spend half a day installing updates. Don't install any other software. Make sure you re-register this fresh Win7 installation.
2: Eventually, you will get the upgrade to 10 offer. Accept it as you have nothing to lose at this point.
3: After Win10 upgrade is done you can start adding your software back.
At this point you have Win10 or Win7 depending on which drive you have plugged in!
This has worked great for me since Dec. of last year. I've only had to go back to my Win7 drive a couple of time and it still works just fine...just much slower than the new SSD! Good luck!

Sounds like a good solution, and I've been wanting an excuse to buy a SSD for a while now. Just ordered one from Amazon (Crucial MX300 750GB), and I should have it tomorrow. Now where did I put that Win7 CD?

You don't need it - get a copy of AOMEI Partition Assistant (the free version is fine) and it has an "Migrate OS to SSD" wizard which does all the work for you. Took about 30 mins on my system and I have had no problems whatsoever since. If you keep your apps and data on separate partitions on the HDD (as I did) then you can also use it later to expand the data partition to fill the whole HDD
