I don't know much about this.
But I do know (from experience) that a refresh rate > 120hz, is not worth the price tag.

From what I have been able to notice the human eye can differentiate between 60 and 120hz so you will notice a difference.
But anything above that not so much. I have a 240hz at home I use for gaming and don't notice any difference between that and 120hz.
I'm sure there is a difference but I don't think mere mortals will notice it.

If you don't do any gaming at all and only use it for programming and movies then I wouldn't even bother going above 60hz.
For programming, you don't need it.
For movies, well sort of depends but even blue ray at 1080 still uses 60hz.
99% of movies today still use 60hz or lower so you'll gain little to nothing when going higher (in some cases it might even make the movie look surreal).

This explains refresh rates a lot better than I can (sorry if there are any full screen ads)
