Hello Community,
I would like to know if any of you are aware of a Business Software Portal for freelance developers? Something akin to what itch.io[^] and steam [^] has for freelance game developers?

I have to admit, I never tried install apps from different sources, because store is well structured and easy to use. The opposite happens for desktop apps.

Is it more favourable to have self hosted on authors site or using a source control site like github/bitbucket?
Combined with GitHub pages, don't need to even have your own hosted page for the project documention

Agree with Jan as to being equivalent to app store... but if you're asking for Linux installers, what about yum? pip? github? sourceforge?

Then why CNET? Really! Someone installing an app onto a phone from CNET is unworthy of a bullet, just kill them with a stick! It's bad enough when installing all sorts of crap-ware from CNET into Windows, but you should have no reason to resort to that particular infection-riddled-site for a phone, any phone, well perhaps if you're the one using a WinPhone.
If you do include desktops, then what about all the different Linux distro's repositories? I'm sure anyone running a Linux would most likely have installed nearly all their software from there instead of downloading anything manually.

I have not had much trouble with CNET. Have to say that I am totally frustrated that some sites like Adobe (?) give you the option of downloading crap. Hate Yahoo since they pay to have themselves put as your default search engine.

I think of it more of an app store. It is provided the same as Apple's app store by the vendor of the OS, but is actually packages of other "vendors".

Not sure how that's different, since the above distribution systems do the exact same thing, they just don't charge for it.

Yeah, it's not really any different. Ubuntu even has a "app store" looking graphical interface for apt-get.

I download video files from bit torrent, does that count as an app. I once downloaded a game but that was 3 machines ago.

Please use an unit of time that we are all familiar with, such as months or years. "Machines" as a unit of time to some people means days and to others decades.
